Czech Airlines is a Czech airline and a national carrier headquartered in the Vokovice quarter of Prague's 6th district with its hub at Vaclav Havel Airport. Known by the acronym CSA, it is one of the oldest airlines in the world and was the first airline in the world to operate regular jet flights between Prague and Moscow.
Czech Airlines or CSA was founded in 1923 by the Czechoslovak government under the name Ceskoslovenske Statni Aerolinie. The airline made its first domestic and international flights from Prague to Bratislava in 1930 until 1939 when Czechoslovakia broke up and the airline came to a halt.
After World War 2 ended in 1948 most of the fleet was replaced with Soviet-made fleet. Unfortunately, in 1950 the airline became the first airline to experience the hijacking of three planes at once as this case also escalated the cold war between East and West overnight. Despite this, the airline continued to operate flights and became the second airline to organize jet flights.
Until the end of the 1990s, in 1995 the airline's current name was adopted after the breakup of the Czechoslovak Federation and part of the Soviet-built fleet was sold and retired.
