Alitalia, the national airline of Italy, has been in operation since 1946. Originally owned by the Italian government, it became a private company in 2009 after a merger with Air One. In 2015, Alitalia reorganized with investments from Etihad Airways and a minority stake from Air France-KLM Group. Despite various efforts to benefit the airline, Alitalia was placed under extraordinary administration in 2017 after support from Etihad Airways was discontinued.
