Great Southern Hotel Brisbane

The hotel Was having major renovations however the stay was good despite thst

Renovations are happening so had some loud conversations in the hallway at 6:30am but otherwise a fine hotel for the price point. Newly renovated bathroom, clean, tidy room.

Overall, a good value stay. Hotel suites VERY CLEARLY MENTION that repairs are going on at the Hotel. They staff put a poster on the front desk that it is mentioned on booking sites, but it WAS NOT. Otherwise, good value. Staff were nice.

Under renovation so can be a bit nosy

Although the hotel is being renovated it had very little impact on our stay. Room was large and very modern. Beds made and clean towels every day. Continental breakfast was more than enough.

The hotel is currently undergoing renovations, so it's a bit cluttered in the lobby, but the room was clean and the bed was fine. The location is fantastic, close to the centre of town, across the road from the casino and the bridge to South Bank. The botanic gardens are a short walk away.

It’s a construction site! That’s obviously not outlined on their website! So yeah- workman everywhere, dirty carpets, very uninviting lobby. The room itself was fine- no issue. But yes- everything else a construction site! I wonder if Inpaid full price despite the false advertising?

Our only problem was the VERY noisy extractor fan in the bathroom which we dealt with pretty well by closing the door. But there was another noise which I think may have been the air-conditioner. No problem with the renovations. Looking forward to seeing the results. Very good location with free Loop Bus across the road & walk to casino and bridge to Southbank.

Bed was a bit hard on the hips. Otherwise all good.

The hotel is undergoing quite substantial renovations and inconvenience is only minor. The location is excellent for my purposes and is easily accessed by car.

The room was very clean and tidy, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Although I did not visit the restaurant or casino, I ordered breakfast through room service, and it was more than sufficient and very good.

The motel is under renovations and I enjoyed the room and can appreciate that while doing the work, heaps of activities and reconstruction.

Nice hotel, great location! The reef right off the beach was fabulous for snorkeling at high tide. That alone made this hotel an excellent choice

Reception staff smiled and were helpful and friendly. Not always my experience at other establishments. Triple AAA rating. Despite the renovations, the quality of the staff made up for any limitations.

The air-conditioning is very good. The room is spacious and very clean.Staff are very helpful and friendly even at 3.30am.Didn't use the breakfast area but the menu looked really good.We have stayed there twice before and thoroughly recommend the hotel. It is located centrally to lots of shops,eateries , bridge to Southbank, Casino. The noise from the renovations starts at 8am but louder noises start later. Once the renovations are done it will be a perfect hotel situated in a perfect location

Ideal location on a budget

Am a solo wheelchair traveller, independent (can stand and walk short distances). Thanks to earlier reviewers, I was well prepared for heavy construction noise from 6:30am. Did indeed experience considerable noise from construction workers from 6.20am, and the empty halls made every word echo through your door. Please don't assume hallway conversations are private at all. Hotel staff were excellent. The women working here went above and beyond to make sure my little travel wheelchair and I could get where we needed to go. They have a great "can do" attitude, especially if you understand it's a construction site and are kind to them. Location was excellent for access to conferences at the Star Grand, and also QUT, parliament, and several smaller historic buildings immediately nearby. My TV didn't connect, nor did my WiFi, but this didn't bother me as I'd been offered a last minute rate 1/4 the price of over the road at my conference venue. Bathroom good but tiny. Air quality sensors showed high concentrations of construction dust in room (no opening windows) on arrival (construction dust) , which cleared by nightfall. Also showed that the AC control panel in my room did not ultimately seem to change the temperature at all, which remained at a constant 22°C & 70% humidity, regardless whether it was "off" or "on", during mild weather. Views from top floor were stunning, and will be breathtaking once exterior windows get washed some day. Thanks for having me.
