There was an evacuation alarm at 0430 in the morning. Getting back in after the event was a nightmare. Staff did not have the brains to open the fire exits to let people in, instead we had to wait for the lift that held 8 or so people. I do believe the lift to the car parking was also used. . There were many elderly people and children left out in the cold. I did not see a staff member at all. Where is the communication. Staff should have been visible with afire warden high vis vest and helmet. Poor form and I was having such a nice stay.

Only problem was arriving at 7pm to check in- reception button wasn't connecting and neither was the number listed at the door, so we were a little panicked that we weren't going to get in! But the girl who eventually answered was most helpful and offered me two free drinks for my troubles. Oh, and 2 times my room card stopped working and we had to get new ones in order to use the elevator. Overall though, a great place to stay in a great location and everyone was very helpful, even when I locked our key in the room!

The staff were friendly and helpful and check in was easy, however, there’s only one lift to service the whole hotel, and if it’s peak time, access to the lift might take some time. The rooms are small and there isn’t a functioning wardrobe ( just some hooks in an awkward corner) . The tv required someone with a tech degree to operate; seemed like an unnecessary complication to me and detracted from the hotel experience. I couldn’t manage to find free to air channels but maybe they were there…… Breakfast was not great; it was all quite fresh but the choices were limited, and odd. I expected a bit more for the price. However, if you’re looking for a clean convenient hotel near the theatre, light rail and good food, and you don’t expect a lot for your dollar, then the Capitol Hotel is an ok choice .

I like this quirky theatre theme hotel. It is right in the heart of things. Despite being in a tram line it is beautifully quiet. The breakfast was nice, although starting at 7am it was a little late for making my early morning meetings.
