What Guests Say About Their Stay

We had a suite at the hotel, it was very roomy, full of character and access to a superior breakfast! All well worth the money. Staff were friendly and very helpful too. The only grumble we had, we asked for a fan and there were non available. I've not made this impact the overall stay rating as the weather was unusually extremely hot so the same request had probably came from all rooms - i would say the hotel should have invested in more fans in preparation for the heat wave that week. Also, the breakfast was probably 8/10, but as we arrived quite late in the morning, it was probably the last of the breakfast served to us, again not marked it down as feel would be unfair

Imani the receptionist was incredibly helpful, especially answering all the questions my Partner Val and myself had. She had a wonderful smiling welcome appearance. We upgraded our room to a Suite which suited us both very well. The breakfasts for the 3 days was some of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had in an hotel. (excellent). We enjoyed a leisurely drink in the bar before we sat down to eat our excellent evening meal. I’ve stayed in many hotels over the years with my work, I regard the Crown at the top of my list. We aim to go back early next year for another much anticipated stay. Well done all the staff at the Crown Hotel Harrogate. Regards Barry & Val.

It’s needing some love & updating - the main areas are lovely & grand but the room was dated & had chips out of the enamel in the bath. Parking could’ve been better organised, it was chaos when we arrived as someone was checking in but didn’t know where to park so blocked the whole area

The Crown hotel is in the perfect location, close to the centre and only a short walk from the famous Betty's tea rooms. However, the hotel is really showing its age. Sadly, it is just very tired and could really do with a refurb and some redecorating. Our room was very old looking, with cracks in the ceiling and a cracked sink in the bathroom. That said, the bedding and towels were spotlessly clean. Would I stay here again?. Probably not.

This is an amazing building situated in a very convenient place. It is rather dated however, the breakfasts weren’t as good as they could be and there is limited parking. Would go back just because of location really.

This would have been a one star review if not for the very friendly staff who lifted it up a peg. The place is in a poor state and needs at the very least some redecoration. The level of cleanliness is patchy. The breakfast is uninspiring - didn't try the dinner offering. I was offered a free upgrade to an "executive breakfast" at check in, which involved table service. The only difference between this and the buffet as far as I could see was that I didn't have the option to avoid the least appetising parts! I booked through Hotels.com and had the impression I had booked a room with walk in shower. However I can find no confirmation of that in the confirmation documents, Perhaps I made a mistake but I am convinced that I was mislead. The week before my stay I discovered the error and contacted the Crown direct who suggested that they could fit temporary grab rails over the bath, which I asked them to do. On arrival I discovered this hadn't been done as promised. Even worse the bathroom wasn't clean. Amongst other things there was black mold on the shower head - I can provide more detail to the hotel if they are interested. I complained to reception about the lack of grab rails and the moldy shower head and was told my comments would be passed on and the rails fitted. They were never fitted, nor the shower cleaned during my 3 night stay. In the end I cleaned the shower myself - the mold wiped off easily with a cloth.

I’ve stayed here before purely because they still have baths, and even then I had to overlook the tired décor, worn‑out furnishings, lack of modern comforts, uncomfortable beds, no air con, single glazing, barely any plug sockets and the £15 daily parking fee. But this stay was somehow worse. Their so‑called “comfort” rooms are actually the lowest budget rooms, ranked below standard, proving they don’t understand the meaning of comfort at all. They even denied using the term despite happily using it when taking your money. The room was tiny, pokey and badly designed — one side of the bed pushed against the wall, no view of the window, and although the walls were freshly painted, everything else belonged in a skip. Staff communication was exhausting and unhelpful from the moment I arrived. I paid full price yet could have stayed somewhere in Harrogate for hundreds less with far better standards. Breakfast was dreadful for all three days: undercooked food, scrambled eggs that tasted like anything but eggs, overdone hash browns, limp bacon and sausages clearly destined for reheating. Overall, extremely disappointing and I would never return.

We only had 1 night stay and it was great. The building has history and character just like Harrogate itself. Check-in was very quick, we had a parking space reserved which was brilliant. The room we had was on the 2nd floor and was adequate for our needs a double bed which was comfy. The amenities for coffee/tea including biscuits was good. The bathroom had a shower over the bath with toiletries in bottles on the wall. Plenty of towels. Good size all round even when it was listed as a cosy double when booking. The breakfast was good value with a fantastic choice of hot/cold buffet with cooked to order eggs of your choice. Overall definitely would return. Good value for a visit.

The hotel looked jaded and worn out. The reception staff were quite helpful. The breakfasts were a nightmare, things run out, staff panicking because they were short staffed according to a member of staff. Everything was self-service so why were they so overwhelmed. Couldn't open the windows in the room and had to get staff assistance. Lighting in the room was atrocious and very lacking - no main light, just side lights. Parking costs very steep at £15.00 per night - and very limited. Overall disappointed with the stay and would not return.

The room was at the rear of the hotel and was overlooked, there were no net curtains only room curtains. Therefore the room had no privacy except when you closed the curtains meaning the room was dark most of the time we spent in it.
