Overall a lovely experience. Room beautiful with idyllic views. Loved the penhaligans toiletries. Breakfast very good. A few points to note. We waited 45 mins after arrival for a bottle of Prosecco to be brought to our room by which time we only had a short amount of time before heading to dinner. The room was hot and we couldn’t turn the radiator off or the air conditioning on. The water pump was intermittent so water pressure in shower was very very low for a couple of showers, but fine for others. Thankyou, I hope this is helpful, Sally (Room 102)

A very special hotel (location, interiors, history) - but not enough staff to match the quality of it all. Late-September falls between end of summer and before they switch the heating on - so coldish room, and aircon didn't help and couldn't be switched off, and they forget to suggest we use the heater tucked inside the wardrobe. But would absolutely visit again!

Hotel is fine, but not worth the money. asked to check in a bit early and they charged an extra £60 to do that. I’ve 65 nights in hotels this year and never been charged for that. Coffee machine in room wasn’t working and asked for replacement 3 times and never got one. Breakfast staff were very friendly and service was good. Overall hotel is “ok” which is a shame because the location is absolutely stunning.

Well situated hotel on the Thames, comfortable room and freshly cooked breakfast. East walking distance to the Town which was lucky. The hotel is cashless which they advised by email. What they did not advise was to book restaurant in advance. As a hotel resident we were unable to book a table as it was fully booked, not advised when we checked in. Tis is not what we expect from a Macdonald hotel so very disappointed so be aware if booking.

I've enjoyed the Compleat Angler for many years way back into the 90s, however recently, I suppose like most things, disappointment sets in. My one night recently with an old school friend exposed how things have changed: families allowing their young children to ride light-up scooters on the marble floors of the lobby, next to the bar area just ruined what this hotel used to represent: old British class on the river, sophisticated elegance, sorry probably won't be back.

This is our fourth time staying at this hotel and it is always a wonderful experience. Though the hotel room this past visit was not as large as our previous rooms, it offered views of the Thames River, which is lovely. The only reason I gave only 4 stars this time around, was that our bathroom was small and didnt look clean, in need of updating. But we have not experienced this in the past, so hopefully we will upgrade our room on our next stay

The Compleat Angler is not loved by its owners, customers who remember the days when this was THE hotel to stay in in the area will be saddened and disappointed with what has happened to this once prestigious hotel. Externally the location is perfect, tucked away at the end of Marlow bridge looking out on the church and Thames, a pretty garden area is inviting however often not available to hotel guests because of private “functions”. The older rooms and corridors are shabby, dirty and poorly presented far beyond the desperate need of refurbishment noted by reviewers in 2023. The “superior” rooms in the newer “block” are corporate and lack any character and are themselves due a bit of an update! Luckily we did have a lovely view of the river but would have been devastated if we had been allocated any of the many rooms with views of the car park! Do not pay extra for breakfast, the offer is poor and quality far below what you might expect of a four star establishment. It is a very quick walk across the bridge to any number of cafes and eateries offering far better quality and value for money. This is the ONLY hotel that I have ever stayed at charging supplements for decent coffee and some breakfast items. Concerns reported to management were acknowledged as completely accurate but “we are working on things” and “it’s a corporate decision” 1. Do not go any way to providing a solution and 2. Do not warrant the room rates being charges. This hotel is complete shambles.

Unfortunately we were disappointed with the hotel. It has a fantastic location with wonderful views but feels rundown and in need of some renovation. Before you even enter the hotel you realise things are not quite right as there's a letter missing from the sign and the associated wall is filthy. When we got to our room we found that the edges of the curtains were so frayed that bits fell off as you close them. The battery cover for the safe was missing, the cover for the temperature control for the shower was missing and the extractor fan was disgusting. The AC wasn't great, there's a continuous running noise from behind the toilet and the mattress sloped in to the centre. If you are having breakfast be aware that 50% of the hotel dishes have a £6 supplement and if you want a latte or cappuccino then that's going to be another £4 supplement. If you are going to the bar then expect to wait and don't be surprised when a medium glass of rose is more than £17. Has so much potential but need attention.
