Lovely hotel and lovely staff but there were too many people on the Saturday afternoon when our group of ten arrived. The comfortable lounge was unavailable to us as it was reserved for a wedding and the restaurant had no indoor seating available on a very wet, cold day. We were, however, provided with hot water bottles for our stay in the terrace gazebo. Otherwise cannot fault the hotel or the staff.

We had an overnight stay at Wivenhoe, we had early drinks at the bar and Isaac was super attentive, polite and friendly. Isaac is a credit to the team and came across hard working and conscientious The room was clean and well maintained, bed was very comfy and we had a very peaceful and restful night. The grounds are beautiful we took a walk around the lake then went for more cocktails at the bar. It was an easy drive back into Colchester to see the historic castle the following day. Would highly recommend to all and would love to visit again 😍👏

Lovely location within easy reach of Wivenhoe and colchester. Our room was in the main house so the room was period therefore furnished with old furniture which is not really to our taste. The bathroom was modern however and spotless. We tried the restaurant for dinner, unfortunately only Sunday roast menu and a few other mains. We both had roast but unfortunately not the best 4/10 and patchy service too. Nobody asked if we liked it but mandatory 12.5% service charge! However the breakfast was very good and lovely service, good selection of hot and cold plus special orders from the menu. Overall a really nice stay but with a few niggles.

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed our stay. This was a lovely hotel, with a nice atmosphere. However. We were disappointed with the food offering. We had dinner both nights, the burger and chips were just nice, and quite basic. The chicken pie was not chicken! , struggled to find the chicken. The potatoes and gravy, sauce, were puréed. We were not sure whether to use a knife and fork, or a soup spoon! Please can the chef reconsider puréed food, it seems a lazy way to serve a dinner .However, we do have a sense of humour with most things, and really found the funny side!

I found the hotel welcoming stunningly beautiful. I had breakfast in my room and it was 10 out of 10 absolutely excellent I travel alone. I am female and I have a hotel like this is incredibly important to me. It was excellent.

Beautiful setting , not too far from home but we wanted to escape the beach crowds from home and it was very peaceful at the hotel. Had an overcharge issue with drinks bill but have been told it’s being dealt with. Special Thankyou to Abby for her help.

Room was clean and comfortable but TV wouldn't connect to the wifi - night staff tried to help and even reset the system, but it was still the same the next day. We were also rudely awoken early in the morning by 2 dogs in the room next door that had obviously been left while their owners had gone to breakfast. REALLY NOT good and not what you'd expect from this type of hotel. Breakfast was good but coffee wasn't great - partner had to send his cafetiere back as is tasted horrible. Building is very grand and generally the property and rooms are maintained to a high standard, it was just a shame we have a couple of things that impacted our stay and made us unlikely to return in the future

We had a wonderful two night stay and would highly recommend it. Staff in all areas were exceptional and service provided was the best we've had at any hotel. Clean comfortable room, great breakfasts and the Park Brasserie provided an excellent dining experience.

We stayed here on our Ruby Wedding Anniversary as we had our wedding reception here and this was the first time we had gone back in 40 years! Staff very attentive and had sprinkled red hearts on the bed and on our dining table with little lights.The food was delicious, lovely evening meal and very good breakfast in the morning. Over all a lovely nostalgic stay for us and we will definitely return.
