True to its name which means “dawn,” Fajar Utama Yoyga departs in the early morning when the sun is about to rise. The departure time from both cities is only available at dawn. Meanwhile, the night service is usually performed by both Senja Utama Yogya and Senja Utama Solo. Fajar Utama Yogya leaves from Yogyakarta’s Tugu Station at 6:15 a.m. and goes from Jakarta’s Pasar Senen Station at 7 a.m. To reach the final stop, this train takes 8 to 8.5 hours with an average speed of 600 to 100 km per hour.
Along the way, Fajar Utama Yogya will stop at these following stations: Wates Station, Kutoarjo Station, Kroya Station, Ketanggungan Station, Purwokerto Station, Cirebon Station, Jatibarang Station, Haurgeulis Station, and Jatinegara Station. The interesting fact is that the train heading to Yogyakarta doesn’t need to make a stop at Jatinegara Station while the one heading Jakarta does the same by not stopping at Kroya Station.
The rail ticket has varied costs ranging from 230,000 IDR, 245,000 IDR, and 260,000 IDR per person. The fares depend on the subclass/seat position, reservation time, and departure schedule chosen by the passenger. Speaking of facilities that a business class train has to offer, Fajar Utama Yogya provides great convenience for passengers. The amenities include AC, TV, and electric sockets next to seats. The passenger seat is typically an elongated, leather sofa bench and designed for two people. Your baggage can be put in either the overhead bin or the baggage car.
Interesting Information about Fajar Utama Yogya Train
The History
Fajar Utama Yogya actually belongs to the 80’s generation. The express train officially began its operation in May 1986. In the beginning, it used to be a mass rail-based transport offering an air-conditioned business class. With reasonably-priced rail ticket, the railcar’s passengers could enjoy some top facilities. In September 2016, it got changed to be an economy-class train. Nowadays, Fajar Utama Yogya able to load 1,000 people per day serves the business class trip.
Train Series
Fajar Utama Yogya applies several types of locomotives including CC 201, CC203, CC204, and CC206. In a series, the train brings out a locomotive, 7 business passenger cars, a dining car, and a baggage car. In one way, the railroad car is able to transport 448 people.
Air-Conditioned Economy Class Train
On late September 2016, PT. KAI (Persero) made a little change in the class type from economy to business. Although it sounds downgrading, the facility the train provides remains first class – even it is as good as the ones in the executive class. Each coach comes with cozy seating set in unit, airplane-style interior, and TV – everything you see there is designed as stylish as the executive class train. However, the seat arrangement doesn’t satiate the passengers’ personal preference. It’s inconvenient and limits people’s movement. After having got a series of customer complaints, PT KAI turns the economy class into the business type again.
