Kutojaya Utara Train

Kutojaya Utara Train is an AC Economy class train connecting Kutoarjo Station-Pasar Senen Station. The train was used to be called Sawunggalih Economy Train and is operating under Operation Area 5 Purwekerto. The train goes through 464 kilometers once per day, back and forth.

According to the timetable, Kutojaya Utara Train leaves at 05.25 in the morning from Pasar Senen Jakarta Station. With about 7 hours 45 minute’s duration, the Kutojaya Utara Train arrives at Kutoarjo Purwokerto on one o’clock in the afternoon. The same train will then leaves Kutoarjo Station at five o’clock in the afternoon and arrives at Pasar Senen Jakarta Station at almost one o’clock at night. The trip from Purworejo - that is located in West Java - to Jakarta takes less than 8 hours. Along the trip, the train only stops at 13 stations. The stations are Kutoarjo Station, Kebumen Station, Karanganyar Station, Gombong Station, Kroya Station, Purwokerto Station, Bumiayu Station, Prupuk Station, Cirebon Station, Bekasi Station, Jatinegara Station, Pasar Senen Station.

The ticket fare for Kutojaya Utara Train one time trip is Rp110.000 per passenger. The fare is included the standard facility of an Economy class train. The facilities the passenger get in this regular train is full AC, toilet on every end of the passenger carriages, leather covered seats, two power plugs on every fourth chair, small desk beside the window, and luggage space above each passenger seats. Other facilities are available with additional charge. Those are meals, blanket, and pillow. Dining service is available by ordering to the train stewards. The passenger can also obtain complete meal menu in the dining cart where the canteen is located.

Kutojaya Train occupancy rate is one of the best rates for Economy class train. The train occupancy rate is up to 80% on working hours and 100% on holidays. Even on special occasions such as Lebaran and school break, PT KAI often adding more carriages to anticipate additional passenger flow.

The Train History

Kutojaya Utara Train used to be called Sawunggalih Economy Train, operates since May 31st 1977. At the time, the train initial route was Pasar Senen Station – Kutoarjo Station. Entering the year of 2001, Sawunggalih Economy Train changed its route to Tanah Abang Station-Kutoarjo Station. The train name then changed into Kutojaya Economy Train but more popular as Kutojaya Utara Train. From the year of 2013 and up until now, the train departure was back to Pasar Senen Station.

The Train Series

Kutojaya Utara Train is using CC201, CC203, and CC206 Locomotive. Every day the train pulls many carriages because of the high occupancy rate.  On each trip, the train at least brings 9-11 economy carriages, one generator train, one dining cart, and one empty carriage for safety reason.

Extra Carriage

Because of the high occupancy rate, PT KAI always prepares one additional carriage in every Kutojaya Utara train series, especially at Lebaran season. In 2016, Kutojaya Utara Train was given an addition of a new economy train made by PT INKA. The new train has an Executive train look with the capacity of 80 passenger seats in each carriage.
