Probolinggo Station is categorized as a class I station, located at an elevation of +5 meters in Mayangan, Probolinggo, which falls under Operational Area IX Jember. This station connects the Banyuwangi and Surabaya regions and is currently the only station catering to passengers in the Probolinggo area.

Historically, the station was completed on May 16, 1878, by a Dutch colonial company named Staatsspoorwegen. Initially, the construction of the railway line was planned to extend only from Surabaya to Pasuruan. However, the line was later extended to the Probolinggo area, officiated on May 3, 1884.

The development continued; in 1895, the railway track of Probolinggo Station was extended from Probolinggo to Klakah. That's why the Dutch decided to build a station in Probolinggo.

Although Probolinggo Station is quite old, it has remained sturdy until now due to renovations carried out by PT KAI in 2013-2014. Nevertheless, its appearance is not much different from its original form in the 20th century.
