Lovely grounds and fabulous spa facilities. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The ladies at the reservation entrance were all exceptional. Jasmine who works at the spa did a fabulous job on sprucing up my tired hands. I felt like a Disney princess after she did her magic on my pedicure!

First of all booked a night away for valentines. Arrived to a rude male receptionist told us the spa was fully booked and could only use the next morning at 7am. We checked into the room which was so outdated. Radiator didn’t work so we was freezing, they did give us a portable heater. We then went down to the spa to have a look and asked if we could use it straight away said yes no problem. £15 each for evening use plus £10 each for robe and towel. Many other couples were turning up and booking straight on so can’t seem to understand why the reception is saying it’s fully booked when it wasn’t even busy. The spa.. wow. Unbelievable. I would come back just for the spa use. I do have to point out though the sun loungers were absoloutley filthy , was either mould or just pure dirt. The staff in the spa were lovely and friendly. We didn’t eat in the restaurants as the prices were just ridiculous so drove 5 minutes and got dominoes. Check out again unfriendly manner. Never asked if we enjoyed our stay or even a thank you. Will come again for the spa but not for the hotel.

The hotel is tired and in need of a facelift. The room faced immediately out on to a brick wall, the room was cold, the radiator was not fully working. There is no fridge in the room, no water and the shower is small and leaking on to the floor. The internal security door lock was broken, there was hair in the sink presumably from the last guest. When we arrived we were told there was little option on dining times with only an 18:30 sitting available, the Spa was not available and even if it was there would be an extra charge of £15 per person and this included the swimming pool and Gym not being available to guests. There is only one Bar that was reserved for the guests attending a private event (wedding), whilst we could order a drink we would be required to sit outside of the bar area. The overall cleanness of the room, corridor and open spaces in general was poor. I would guess that for the Golf Club and Wedding Events it would be passable but for individual guests it was a poor and an expensive stay for little in return and I would not consider ever booking or recommending this hotel again. This was disappointing, having stayed here a number of years back it did not look like this hotel has been looked after and is now in poor shape.

False advertising. The description does not match the actual experience. The hotel is advertised on Expedia as a spa hotel, and the information suggests that spa access is complementary. However, we were informed on arrival that spa access costs £55 per person before 5pm and £15 per person after 5pm. The spa itself was pleasant, and the beds were comfortable, but nothing exceptional. Given the already high price we paid for the room, charging an additional fee for spa access felt unreasonable. We explained to the managers that the information presented on Expedia is misleading. The reception staff seemed to understand our concern, but ultimately the managers refused to offer complimentary spa access. Overall, this was a mediocre experience, and we did not feel that our feedback as customers was respected.

I attended a wedding at Mottram Hall, despite my feelings about the stay, the wedding was perfect and the venue worked hard to run the wedding event smoothly, my comments refer only to my overnight stay. I stayed at Mottram hall for 2 nights and feel quite disappointed about the room and amenities considering the high price of the hotel. Despite being over 150 per night, the room cost doesn’t cover access to any of the hotel’s amenities or the breakfast (which is £18), although I knew this before booking it is quite disappointing. The room itself wasn’t anything special, it was the same size, actually smaller) than most premier inns I’ve stayed in, and there wasn’t anything in the room which made me feel like I was staying in a 5* hotel. In fact, my bathroom mirror was cracked, there were some blueish stains on the toilet, and it lacked what I consider basic amenities such as shower gel in the shower or toothpaste. The walls are also very thin. I didn’t sleep at all on the first night because of children screaming in the corridor, and drunk people shouting in the corridor late at night which the hotel staff were aware of (as I also heard them loudly speaking with other guests about room issues after 23:00) in the corridor. In addition to this, drinks are incredibly expensive. £15 for one Aperol spritz (a 70cl bottle is £12). Overall I felt that I paid extortionate prices for a mediocre room and I wish I had just travelled in for the wedding instead.

Bad: The room was dirty, hairs on the bathroom floor, black mould on the sealant around the bath, the shower was in the bath so it was very pokey and small than I expected. The carpet was dusty and not very clean, the paint was peeling especially near the windows and one was rotten in the bathroom. The spa receptionists didnt know their offerings, and couldnt describe what the different massasges involved, during the massage there was constant advice for extra treatments which made it less relaxing. The cleaning staff were vacuuming in the hallway outside my room at 10pm at night, and due to the non noise blocking doors it was very loud. The good: The staff in the hotel were friendly and gave good advice for the spa. The drinks were good and the breakfast the next morning. Generally I dont think this is a 4* hotel, 3* at best. It could be great but really needs a rennovation of the rooms and not a big one at that. Just new carpets, windows and fresh coat of paint. Maybe a new shower in the bathrooms.

Room very comfortable and dinner good but stay spoiled by a fire alarm evacuation at around 1.20 for over an hour outside in the cold and wet with no guidance or information on what to do. No apparent fire or fire brigade attendance and no informed staff available. This led to a very disturbed night. We were informed in the morning that it had been a false alarm and the culprit had been found. Better management of the event would have been appreciated.
