Airline Profile

About Scoot

Compare Scoot flights on Traveloka by departure city, destination and travel date. For a Scoot booking from Malaysia, review whether the itinerary is direct or connects through Singapore, then compare the total ticket price with the baggage, seats and other extras you need. Check the fare conditions and passenger details before payment, and use your booking confirmation to find the airline reference for check-in.

Scoot is a Singaporean low-cost long-haul airline operating under IATA code TR and ICAO code TGW, headquartered at Changi Airport in Singapore. Founded in 2011 as a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines Group, the airline was initially created to allow the parent company to compete in the rapidly growing budget travel segment across Asia-Pacific and beyond. Scoot began commercial operations in June 2012 with its inaugural flight from Singapore to Sydney, and has since grown into one of the region's most recognised low-cost carriers.

In July 2017, Scoot merged with fellow Singapore Airlines subsidiary Tigerair Singapore, consolidating all low-cost operations under the Scoot brand. Today, the airline serves over 60 destinations across Asia, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East from its hub at Singapore Changi Airport. Scoot offers passengers affordable fares with the option to customise their travel experience through paid add-ons for baggage, meals and seat selection, with Wi-Fi available on Boeing 787 flights.

Airline Overview and History

Scoot was established to fill a strategic gap in Singapore Airlines Group's network, targeting price-conscious leisure and business travellers on medium- and long-haul routes. Key milestones in the airline's history include:

  • November 2011 — Scoot Pte Ltd officially incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines
  • June 2012 — Launched inaugural flight from Singapore to Sydney using a Boeing 777-200
  • 2015 — Took delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, becoming one of the first low-cost carriers to operate wide-body aircraft
  • 2014 — Expanded network to include destinations in China, Japan, South Korea, and India
  • July 2017 — Merged with Tigerair Singapore, absorbing all Tigerair routes and fleet under the Scoot brand
  • June 2017 — Launched flights to Athens, its first European destination, followed by Berlin in 2018
  • 2024 — Named World's Best Long Haul Low-Cost Airline at the Skytrax World Airline Awards
  • 2020–2021 — Adjusted network during the global pandemic, maintaining key routes and cargo operations
  • 2022–2023 — Rapidly restored and expanded services as travel demand recovered across Asia-Pacific
  • 2024 — Introduced Embraer E190-E2 aircraft for thinner regional routes

The airline's primary hub is Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), consistently ranked among the world's best airports and a major aviation hub in Southeast Asia. From Changi, Scoot connects passengers to destinations across more than a dozen countries and territories, offering seamless connectivity through the airport's extensive transit facilities. The airline's mission is to inspire travel by offering affordable fares and a safe, reliable flying experience.

Fleet and Aircraft

Scoot operates a modern mixed fleet of wide-body and narrow-body aircraft, giving the airline flexibility to serve both short-haul regional routes and long-haul intercontinental services. The fleet includes the following aircraft types:

  • Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner — Configured for medium- and long-haul routes to destinations in Australia, Northeast Asia, India, and the Middle East. Features a two-class cabin with Economy and ScootPlus
  • Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner — The larger variant of the 787 family, used on high-demand long-haul routes. Offers improved fuel efficiency and extended range capability
  • Airbus A320/A320neo — Narrow-body aircraft used for short-haul routes within Southeast Asia, including flights to Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines
  • Airbus A321neo — A newer addition to the fleet, offering greater capacity and improved fuel efficiency on popular regional routes

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet is a key differentiator for Scoot, making it one of only a handful of low-cost carriers worldwide to operate wide-body aircraft. The Dreamliner's advanced composite construction, lower cabin altitude, larger windows, and improved humidity levels contribute to a more comfortable passenger experience, particularly on longer flights. The Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft incorporate new-generation engines that deliver significant fuel savings and reduced emissions, supporting the airline's commitment to sustainable aviation.

Top Flight Routes

Scoot operates an extensive network from its Singapore hub, connecting passengers to destinations across Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Australia, and selected cities in Europe and the Middle East. For Malaysian travellers, Scoot offers convenient access to Singapore and onward connections to the wider Scoot network. Key routes relevant to travellers from Malaysia include:

  • Kuala Lumpur to Singapore — The most popular cross-border route in the region, connecting Malaysia's capital to Scoot's hub at Changi Airport for onward connections
  • Kuala Lumpur to Sydney — One of the most sought-after long-haul routes, accessible via a connection through Singapore
  • Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne — Popular with students, families, and leisure travellers heading to Australia's cultural capital
  • Kuala Lumpur to Osaka — A favourite route for Malaysian travellers visiting Japan, with connections via Singapore
  • Kuala Lumpur to Seoul — High-demand route to South Korea, especially popular during cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons
  • Kuala Lumpur to Taipei — Connecting Malaysian travellers to Taiwan's vibrant capital for food, culture, and night markets
  • Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok — A top regional leisure route for shopping, temples, and Thai cuisine
  • Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong — Popular for both leisure and business travel

From its Singapore hub, Scoot also serves destinations including Tokyo (Narita), Sapporo, Perth, Tianjin, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Jeju, Jeddah, and Athens, among others. For connections through Singapore, check whether every flight is on the same booking itinerary and whether through check-in applies. Scoot and Singapore Airlines flights booked together can qualify for through check-in. Separate tickets do not guarantee baggage transfer: you may need to clear arrival immigration, collect your bags and check in again for the onward flight. Allow time for those procedures and check Singapore entry requirements for your passport. You can explore additional routes from Malaysia on Traveloka:

Baggage Allowance and Policies

As a low-cost carrier, Scoot operates a pay-for-what-you-need model where passengers can customise their baggage allowance based on their travel requirements. Understanding the baggage policy before you fly helps avoid unexpected charges at the airport.

Cabin Baggage

  • Weight limit: 10 kg per passenger (Economy); 15 kg per passenger (ScootPlus)
  • Maximum dimensions: 54 x 38 x 23 cm (including handles and wheels)
  • Number of items: One cabin bag plus one small personal item (handbag, laptop bag, or similar)
  • ScootPlus passengers: Entitled to carry two pieces of cabin baggage totalling up to 15 kg

Cabin baggage that exceeds the weight or size limits will be checked in at the gate, and applicable fees may be charged.

Checked Baggage

  • Economy (Basic fare): No free checked baggage included — must be purchased as an add-on
  • Economy (Value fare): 20 kg checked baggage included
  • Economy (Flex fare): 20 kg checked baggage included, with flight changes included
  • ScootPlus: 30 kg checked baggage included
  • Maximum weight per piece: 32 kg for Economy; 32 kg for ScootPlus
  • Add-on options: Purchase checked baggage in increments of 20 kg, 25 kg, 30 kg, 35 kg, or 40 kg during booking on Traveloka

Purchasing checked baggage during booking is significantly cheaper than buying it at the airport. Scoot charges higher fees for baggage purchased at the check-in counter, so pre-booking is strongly recommended.

Prohibited and Restricted Items

Scoot follows international aviation security regulations set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). Key restrictions include:

  • Flammable liquids, gases, explosives, and toxic substances are prohibited in both cabin and checked baggage
  • Sharp objects, cutting tools, and sporting equipment with sharp edges must be placed in checked baggage
  • Power banks: carry no more than two per passenger in cabin baggage, never in checked bags or overhead compartments. Do not use or charge them during the flight. Units up to 100Wh need no special approval; those between 100Wh and 160Wh need prior airline approval. Check Scoot’s dangerous-goods rules for other batteries and electronic cigarettes.
  • Liquids in cabin baggage are limited to containers of 100 ml or less, packed in a single transparent resealable bag of no more than 1 litre total

Check-in Guide

Airport Counter Check-in

Airport counter check-in is available at all airports served by Scoot. Recommended arrival times:

  • All flights: Check-in counters open 3 hours before departure for Boeing 787 flights and 2.5 hours before for Airbus A320, A321 and Embraer E190-E2 flights, and close 60 minutes before departure
  • Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least 2.5 to 3 hours before their scheduled departure time, especially during peak travel periods

At the check-in counter, staff will verify your travel documents, issue your boarding pass, and accept your checked baggage.

Online and Mobile Check-in

For eligible bookings, Scoot web and mobile check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 1.5 hours before. Restrictions apply, including bookings with infants, pregnant passengers, special assistance, multi-city trips or partner-airline connections. Where eligible, passengers can:

  • Select or change their seat
  • Download or print their boarding pass
  • Prepare for airport procedures by checking the boarding pass and baggage-drop instructions

Proceed directly to departure immigration only if Scoot-to-Gate is available, you have no baggage to check and no document check is required. Passengers needing document verification must visit the airport counter at least 120 minutes before departure. Follow the instructions for your flight and departure airport.

Cabin Classes and In-Flight Experience

Economy Class

Scoot's Economy class is designed for budget-conscious travellers who want an affordable fare with the flexibility to add extras. Features include:

  • Standard seat pitch of approximately 28–31 inches depending on aircraft type
  • Reclinable seats on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft
  • In-seat power outlets on Boeing 787 flights, with paid access in Economy and complimentary access in ScootPlus
  • Stretch seats available for purchase — offering extra legroom in bulkhead and exit rows

ScootPlus

ScootPlus is Scoot's premium Economy product, available on Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights. ScootPlus passengers enjoy a range of included benefits:

  • Wider leather seats with 38-inch seat pitch and increased recline
  • 30 kg checked baggage included
  • 15 kg cabin baggage allowance (two pieces)
  • Complimentary meal and beverage selection
  • Priority check-in, boarding, and baggage handling
  • In-seat power on Boeing 787 ScootPlus flights
  • 200MB of Wi-Fi included with ScootPlus on Boeing 787 flights

In-Flight Meals and Beverages

Scoot operates a buy-on-board meal service, meaning meals are not included in the base Economy fare. Passengers can:

  • Pre-order meals: Select from a rotating menu during booking on Traveloka or on the Scoot website — pre-ordering is recommended as popular items sell out quickly
  • Buy on board: Purchase meals and snacks from the in-flight menu during the flight using cash or card
  • Meal options: A variety of Asian and Western meals are available, including halal-certified options, vegetarian dishes, and snack boxes
  • ScootPlus meals: Complimentary meal and drink included with ScootPlus fare

In-Flight Entertainment

Prepare entertainment on your own phone, tablet or laptop by downloading content before departure. On Scoot Boeing 787 flights, onboard Wi-Fi uses data plans; ScootPlus includes 200MB. When the service is available at cruising altitude, connect to the Scoot_WiFi network and open the onboard portal to enter an access code or purchase a session. Save any pre-purchased access code before boarding. Actual connection speed and streaming performance can vary, so offline content is useful even when you buy Wi-Fi. Boeing 787 in-seat power is complimentary in ScootPlus and chargeable in Economy.

Passenger Policies and Special Services

Travelling with Children and Infants

  • Children (2–11 years): Must be accompanied by at least one adult aged 18 or above and require their own seat and ticket
  • Infants (8 days to under 2 years): May travel on an accompanying adult's lap at a reduced infant fare. A maximum of one infant per adult is allowed
  • Required documents: Valid passport for international travel; birth certificate or official identification for all child and infant passengers
  • Scoot does not provide or permit bassinets in the cabin. Infants without a purchased seat travel on the accompanying adult’s lap

Pregnant Passengers

  • For uncomplicated pregnancies through week 28, Scoot does not require a medical certificate. A return flight after week 28 needs the required certificate
  • After week 28, carry a medical certificate confirming fitness to travel, pregnancy stage and expected delivery date. It must be dated within ten days of the first flight after week 28
  • Scoot accepts uncomplicated single pregnancies through the end of week 36 and multiple pregnancies through the end of week 32, with the required certificate. Travel beyond these limits is not permitted
  • Consult your healthcare provider before booking and carry all relevant medical documentation

Passengers Requiring Special Assistance

Scoot provides dedicated support for passengers with reduced mobility, visual or hearing impairments, medical conditions, or other accessibility needs. Available services include:

  • Wheelchair assistance from check-in through boarding and disembarkation (request at least 48 hours before departure)
  • Priority boarding for passengers requiring extra time
  • Cabin crew trained to provide in-flight assistance
  • Pets and emotional support animals are not accepted. Eligible service or hearing assistance dogs require advance arrangements with Scoot; contact its Call Centre when booking or at least 48 hours before departure, whichever is earlier

Passengers who need to travel with medical equipment such as portable oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines, or mobility aids should contact the airline at booking or at least 48 hours before departure to confirm approval and arrangements.

Unaccompanied Minors

  • Scoot offers an Unaccompanied Minor Service for guests aged 12 to 17, which must be arranged in advance with a completed request form
  • All children under 12 years must be accompanied by a passenger aged 18 years or above
  • Young passengers aged 12 to 17 may travel alone with a signed parental consent form, depending on the route and destination regulations

Reschedule, Cancellation, and Refund Policy

Rescheduling Flights

To reschedule a Scoot flight booked through Traveloka:

  • Open the Traveloka app or website and navigate to My Booking
  • Select the booking you wish to modify and tap the reschedule option
  • Choose a new flight date and time from available options
  • Pay any applicable fare difference and rescheduling fees

Rescheduling availability and fees depend on your fare type. Flex fares include flight changes, while Basic and Value fares allow changes for a fee. Changes must be made at least a few hours before the scheduled departure.

Cancellations and Refunds

Refund eligibility depends on the ticket type and circumstances:

  • Voluntary cancellations: Standard fare rules generally do not permit refunds or credits. Scoot also sells a separate Cancel Your Trip product for eligible bookings, with its own purchase conditions, deadlines and exclusions. Do not assume this product is included in a Traveloka fare; review the cancellation conditions attached to your actual booking
  • Airline-initiated cancellations: Review the options in Scoot’s disruption notice and the rules applicable to your journey. Rebooking or refund options depend on the circumstances and applicable passenger rights; ask Traveloka to help confirm the options for a ticket booked through Traveloka
  • Scoot vouchers: If a voucher is offered, check its value, expiry date and redemption conditions before accepting. A travel voucher differs from a refund to the original payment method

To request a cancellation or refund, open your booking details on Traveloka and review the available options. If you cannot submit the request there, contact Traveloka Customer Service with the booking reference and any airline disruption notice. Confirm the eligible amount, any deductions, refund method and estimated processing time for your case. Follow the request status after submission rather than assuming a fixed payment date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the baggage allowance on Scoot flights?
Scoot allows 10 kg of cabin baggage (one bag plus one personal item) for Economy passengers and 15 kg for ScootPlus. Checked baggage is not included in the Basic fare but is included with the Value (20 kg) and Flex (20 kg) bundles and ScootPlus (30 kg). Additional checked baggage can be purchased in increments during booking on Traveloka.
Can I select my seat on Scoot flights?
Scoot charges for seat selection with its Basic fare. Selected standard seats are included with Value and Flex bundles, while ScootPlus includes seat selection on its Boeing 787 flights. For a Traveloka booking, check the seat options and charges shown for your itinerary; airline website bundles may differ from the fare offered.
Does Scoot provide in-flight meals?
Scoot operates a buy-on-board meal service for Economy passengers. You can pre-order meals during booking on Traveloka or purchase food and beverages on board. Halal-certified and vegetarian options are available. ScootPlus passengers receive a complimentary meal and drink included with their fare.
Does Scoot have a frequent flyer program?
Scoot does not run its own miles program; it plugs into KrisFlyer, the frequent flyer scheme of parent company Singapore Airlines. Eligible Scoot travellers can earn and redeem KrisFlyer miles on qualifying fares, including ScootPlus bookings, with miles on Scoot-only trips based on the amount spent on the fare.
Is Scoot part of any airline alliance?
Scoot's official list of airline partners does not name any alliance; instead it lists interline partnerships with parent Singapore Airlines and with Virgin Australia. On an interline journey with Singapore Airlines, travellers connecting at Changi do not need to pass through immigration or collect checked bags before the onward flight, which extends Scoot's Singapore-based network into more of the world.
Where does Scoot operate from?
Scoot is based at Singapore Changi Airport, operating as the medium and long haul low cost arm of Singapore Airlines since starting flights on 4 June 2012. From this single hub it reaches destinations across Asia-Pacific and Australia, relying on Changi's connectivity rather than a secondary base the way some regional rivals do.
What planes does Scoot fly on its routes?
Scoot flies a two tier fleet: Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners for long haul routes, plus Airbus A320ceo, A320neo, and A321neo aircraft alongside Embraer E190-E2 jets for regional flying. The 787-9s are configured for up to 375 passengers, among the densest Dreamliner cabins operated by any airline in the world today.
What is ScootBiz on Scoot flights?
ScootBiz no longer appears among Scoot's fare options; the airline's premium product today is ScootPlus, sold above the Basic, Value and Flex Economy bundles. Rather than flat beds, ScootPlus gives wider leather seats with a 38-inch pitch and more recline, 30kg of checked baggage, priority check-in and boarding, in-seat power and complimentary Wi-Fi data, with the full perks available on Boeing 787 aircraft.
What is the history behind Scoot as an airline?
Scoot launched on 4 June 2012 as a low cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. In July 2017, sister carrier Tigerair was merged into Scoot, adopting Tigerair's air operator's certificate, which is why Scoot's IATA code changed from TZ to TR even though the Scoot brand and livery were retained across the combined fleet.
Can pets travel in the cabin with Scoot?
Scoot does not permit pets or emotional support animals in the cabin on any route. The only exception is trained service dogs travelling with a handler who has a qualifying disability, booked with advance notice and a Meet-and-Assist service, which may carry a fee. Scoot's Conditions of Carriage state that it does not accept any other animals for transport.
How much extra baggage can I buy on Scoot?
On Scoot flights, including those from Kuala Lumpur, Economy guests can buy a checked allowance from 20kg up to 40kg, and ScootPlus guests can top up their included 30kg to 40kg, with additional fees applying. However much you buy, no single bag may weigh more than 32kg or measure more than 158cm when length, width and height are added together. Sports gear such as golf clubs and bicycles comes out of the same pre-purchased allowance.
Can I use a self-service kiosk for Scoot at Kuala Lumpur airport?
Scoot's self-service kiosks at Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Subang (SZB) open 4 hours before departure and close 65 minutes before, and you can print your baggage tags there before handing bags in. Guests who need special assistance or are flying to a destination that requires a visa must check in at the counter instead. The counters themselves open 2.5 to 3 hours before departure, depending on the aircraft, and close 60 minutes before.
