Despite the small town, the hotel is good. Privacy, clean room, affordable price. Nice decent breakfast provided.

The Kerian District is an administrative district in Perak, Malaysia which covers the north western corner of Perak bordering the states of Penang and Kedah to the north. The main town of Kerian is Parit Buntar is located just 344 kilometres southeast of George Town which is Penang's capital city. The district has become one of the main rice-growing areas in Perak. Its local government is Majlis Daerah Kerian or Kerian District Council which is based at Parit Buntar. From the 2010 Population and Housing Census, Kerian has recorded a population of 173,625. Kerian District is divided into eight mukims, which are Bagan Serai, Bagan Tiang Beriah Gunong, Semanggol, Kuala Kurau, Parit Buntar, Selinsing and Tanjung Piandang.

The community here uses Malay language with distinctive Perak and Penang accent also to communicate here at Kerian and also English to local and international tourists. Besides that, chinese and tamil languages also used by community at this area.

How to Get There

By Car

You can drive from Kuala Lumpur city centre which takes 3 hours and 10 minutes using North- South highway depend on traffic. From Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the duration is 3 hours 35 minutes which also using the same highway.You can also reach Kerian by car or taxi from Penang International Airport which takes around 1 hour and 5 minutes by using the second bridge of Penang.

Orang Utan Island

Located around 23 minutes away from Kerian town, Orang Utan Island has progressed from being a sanctuary, where visitors experienced first-hand awareness and education on the orangutan, to a recognised ex-situ conservation facility and referral centre for the endangered Bornean orang-utan since year 2000. The orang-utan derived from ‘man (orang) of the forest (hutan)’ in the local Bahasa Malaysia language, exhibits truly human-like mannerism in many facets of its behavior. Scientists have come to study how Orang Utan Island and discover a population of 24 orangutans today from only three in 2000 and they believe the endeavours at Orang Utan Island can assist in the conservation of the Bornean orang utan. Orang Utan Island plays an important role in building local conservation capacity by exposing visitors to various aspects of primatology such as primate behavior and ecology, captive care and veterinary medicine, and, conservation biology. Orang Utan Island also acts to serve as a temporary holding facility for those orang utans rescued from illegal possession and or trade before being returned to their natural habitat with mechanisms in place to treat, care and rehabilitate those orang utans assessed unfit for immediate return to the wild. In the 14 years of its operation, Orang Utan Island has achieved success on and demand activities and programmes attracting universities from within Malaysia and around the world for joint-cooperation across fields in education and research. The entrance charged for Malaysian adult is RM30 whereas child RM18 and senior citizen (above 55) is RM15 as well as for non Malaysian is RM36 for two way lake cruiser journey.

Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary

This sanctuary is situated 26 minutes away from Kerian town. During the migration season between August and April every year, more than 200,000 migratory birds representing some 50 species are estimated to stop over at Matang Mangrove Forest and since then, it has been a sanctuary for the birds.The Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary has won the "Best Tourist Attraction (Natural Attraction)" category during the Malaysia Tourism Awards, a prestigious award presented to agencies and organisations which contribute to the development of tourism in Malaysia. You can take the North-South Expressway south from Butterworth (Penang) for about 30 minutes and reach the town of Kuala Kurau and see the sign of the sanctuary.
