A fabulous old building with charming interior. Very comfortable rooms and dining room. Clean room and bathroom; certainly adequate for a short stay staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast is a feas.. Be aware that the parking is not onsite as listed. Strongly advise phoning the hotel for info and directions.

Excellent service as per normal, we stayed for 3 nights and ate in the restaurant every night, food was excellent. All the staff are so friendly nothing too much trouble. Well stocked bar drinks not overpriced like some hotels. The only downside was my wife who has walking difficulties found the shower tray a little bit slippy.

I booked a room to celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary. I booked a restaurant in Shrewsbury too. When we checked in, the room was very cold, the radiator was lukewarm, and one of the towel rails in the bathroom wasn't working. We were hoping to shower and change before going out. I went to the reception and was told we could be upgraded and to pack our bag. When I returned, they gave us the key to a much poorer room with a dingy bathroom (with a shower over the bath) and condensation running down a window high on the bedroom wall. Apparently, the radiator in the upgraded room had leaked. By this time, it was too late for us to shower, as we needed to leave for our booked table at the restaurant. We were moved again on returning to the hotel. Evening and planned celebration ruined. I did complain, but have received no reply.

Reception staff were excellent and very approachable. Bar staff were the same. Good breakfast and staff very efficient. Cleanliness of room not great. Plus when we arrived the heating had been turned off and the window in the room was wide open, so the room was absolutely freezing

Hotel is a little tired in places but it adds to it’s character but some small repairs would make a difference ( just general maintenance) Rooms vary greatly depending on what part of the hotel you stay in. Staff are usually very friendly and helpful ( our checkin lady was lovely as was the waitress at breakfast) Breakfast is always great quality . Room is clean but can be a bit tired again depending on what part of the hotel. I love this hotel for its character charm and location so would happily stay again
