Rantau Abang is a small village in Terengganu, Malaysia, which used to be noted for its Leatherback Sea Turtle nesting. Rantau Abang is located 22 km north of Kuala Dungun and 80 km south of Kuala Terengganu,well known of its long sandy beach consistence with the beauty of east coast in Peninsular Malaysia. It was once famous and mostly visited town and tourists come to witness the beauty of the beach, even more popped by to watch the giant leatherback turtle to lay eggs between May and August. The laying season starts from May to August, peak months are June and July, that time around, Rantau Abang will be swamp with visitors from everywhere. Unfortunately, the number of turtles stop by to lay eggs has been reducing year by year due to pollution and harassment from the tourists that disrupt their tranquility. However the beach is safe for swimming, and is still used for other tourist activities.

By Plane

To have more safe and comfortable trip to Rantau Abang, you can take flight to reach Rantau Abang from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Sultan Mahmud Airport Kuala Terengganu . You can board Malaysia Airlines or AirAsia to the Sultan Mahmud Airport Kuala Terengganu. From there grab a taxi to town bus station and catch a bus to Rantau Abang.

By Car

From Kuala Lumpur, take the Karak highway towards Kuantan which will take approximately 3 hours drving. Once you reach Kuantan, follow the coastal Highway 3 and head towards Dungun, from there, and follow the signage to Kuala Terengganu. If you travel from From Johor Bharu or Singapore, take the North-South Highway to Yong Peng. Then take Highway 1 to Labis and onto Segamat. Follow through Kuantan and follow Coastal Highway 3 to reach Rantau Abang.

By Bus

Many coaches available can bring you to Kuala Terengganu. However, most of them do not stop at Rantau Abang. You need to inform the driver that you wish to be stopped at Rantau Abang town.
