Samarahan is a district in Sarawak, Malaysia. It is located around 30 km south east of Kuching. Kota Samarahan, its capital is the main education hub for Sarawak and officially known as “Town of Knowledge”.

History of Samarahan

Samarahan was once known as Muara Tuang which was at that time a small trading village. The name Muara Tuang was derived from the location of the place at the meeting of two rivers namely, Sungai Tuang and Sungai Samarahan.

There are flights to Kuching provided by Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Firefly and Air Asia. From the airport, guests may hail up a taxi to Samarahan.

There is a new road called the Kuching-Kota Samarahan Expressway that links Samarahan with major industrial areas of Demak Laut, Pending and Sama Jaya. This highway also shortened the distance from Kuching-Kota Samarahan to 11 kilometers.
