The balcony area is very suitable to have a relaxing sit and rest, the night view was very pretty. The staff was very friendly. They gave us (2 adult) free breakfast and just need to add RM10 for my 6yo kid. It was Saturday, the night market was started at about 5.30pm. Make sure to arrive before that time, otherwise no car is able to come. It is near the city center, many shopping malls, the Jonker, the night market, river cruise, and others are just on a walking distance. Very satisfying and pleasant staying at Quayside Hotel. Will sure to recommend to my friends who are going to Melaka.

Overview of Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street (Formerly Quayside)

Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street Formerly Quayside is a 3-star hotel set at Lot 48 & Lot 51, Jalan Tun Khalil Yaakob, Bandar Hilir, in Melaka City Center. As the name signals, the property previously operated under the Quayside brand before being rebranded to Sunday Malacca — a change worth knowing if you have seen the hotel referenced under either name while researching your stay. The hotel is a compact, two-floor property with 39 rooms in total, which keeps the atmosphere relatively low-key compared to the large convention-style hotels found elsewhere in Melaka City Center. Its address places it squarely within Bandar Hilir, the historic core of Melaka City, putting the hotel within reach of the city's UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites, riverside promenade, and the Jonker Street night market without needing to venture far from the immediate neighbourhood.

On Traveloka, the property currently holds a guest rating of 7.9 out of 10 ("Very Good") from 609 reviews, with category scores of 8.6 for cleanliness, 8.6 for room comfort, 9.1 for location, 8.6 for service and facilities, and 7.9 for meals. The strong location score in particular reflects the hotel's positioning inside Melaka's historic city center, an area most visitors use as their base for exploring the town on foot. Because the property is relatively small, travellers who prefer a quieter, more intimate stay — rather than a large hotel with hundreds of rooms and constant foot traffic — may find the scale here a better fit, while still being close enough to the main tourist strip to walk in for dinner or a night market visit.

Room/Unit Types at Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street

Traveloka's listing for Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street Formerly Quayside shows four confirmed room categories. Presented from the entry-level tier upward, they are as follows.

Superior Room

The Superior Room is the hotel's entry-level category. As with the other room types at this property, Traveloka's live listing does not provide a detailed public breakdown of exact bed configuration, floor size, or specific in-room amenities beyond the property-wide facility list. Guests are encouraged to check the current room description and photos on the Traveloka listing at the time of booking, or to review the property's own confirmation details, for the precise bed setup and maximum occupancy of this category.

Premium Room

Sitting above the Superior tier, the Premium Room is positioned as a step-up category at Sunday Malacca. Rooms across the hotel are generally supported by air conditioning as a standard facility; beyond that, specific in-room inclusions for this tier are not itemised in the current listing data, so it is worth confirming size and bedding directly with the property or through the booking details shown at checkout.

Suite

The Suite category represents a further step up in space and presentation from the Superior and Premium rooms, typically suited to guests wanting a bit more room to settle in during a Melaka stay, whether for leisure or a short work trip. As with the other categories here, exact square footage and layout are best confirmed via the live listing at time of booking.

Family Suite

The Family Suite is the top tier of the four confirmed categories and is designed with groups or families in mind, offering the most space of the available options at this property. Given the hotel's modest 39-room total, family-oriented inventory in this category can be limited, so travelling groups may want to check availability for their specific dates early.

Across all four categories, rooms typically include air conditioning and a private bathroom as standard; guests should refer to the live Traveloka listing for the current per-room amenity list, as unit-level detail (such as minibar, safe, or bathtub availability) is not itemised in the structured data reviewed for this page.

Facilities and Amenities

Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street Formerly Quayside is set up primarily as a convenient, no-frills base for exploring Melaka rather than a resort-style destination in its own right. Confirmed property facilities include the following.

  • Air conditioning throughout guest rooms
  • 24-Hour Front Desk for round-the-clock check-in support and guest assistance
  • WiFi, listed as a free amenity on the property's Traveloka listing
  • Business center for guests needing to work during their stay
  • Luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures
  • 24-hour security on the premises
  • Express check-in/check-out, useful for guests on tight schedules

The hotel's official check-in time is from 3:00 PM, with check-out required before 12:00 PM. Because the property does not list large-format amenities such as a swimming pool, spa, or in-house restaurant in its Traveloka facility data, guests looking for those extras are better served exploring the wider Melaka City Center dining and leisure scene just outside the hotel, rather than expecting an on-site resort experience. This positioning suits travellers whose priority is a functional, well-located base rather than an amenity-heavy stay.

Location and Getting There

The hotel's address in Bandar Hilir places it inside what is widely regarded as Melaka's historic heart — the same district that contains the city's UNESCO World Heritage Site zone, the Melaka River, and the wider Jonker Street precinct that the hotel's own name references. Being based in Melaka City Center generally means many of the town's landmark attractions, heritage buildings, and the riverside walk are within a short walk or a quick trishaw/taxi ride, rather than requiring a lengthy transfer.

For travellers arriving from further afield, Melaka is most commonly reached by road from Kuala Lumpur or Johor Bahru, or via connecting flights into the wider Klang Valley region followed by a coach or private transfer into the city. If your trip to Melaka starts with a flight, you can compare routes and schedules and book a flight with Traveloka as part of planning the rest of your journey before arranging onward transport into Melaka City Center.

Once settled in Melaka, the compact, walkable layout of the old town means many of the city's best-known sights — from the riverside promenade to the historic Dutch and Portuguese-era landmarks around Bandar Hilir — are reachable on foot from a Melaka City Center base, without needing to rely heavily on taxis for day-to-day sightseeing.

Dining at/near Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street

Traveloka's listing for Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street Formerly Quayside does not list an on-site restaurant among the hotel's confirmed facilities, so the property functions primarily as a base for exploring Melaka's food scene rather than a dining destination in itself. This is a common setup for smaller, city-center boutique hotels in Melaka, where guests are expected to step out to the surrounding streets for meals.

Being located in Bandar Hilir and near the Jonker Street area works in guests' favour here, since this part of Melaka City Center is dense with hawker stalls, Peranakan restaurants, and the well-known Jonker Street night market food stands that operate on weekend evenings. Guests wanting to plan sightseeing and food stops together around the historic district can browse activities and things to do in Melaka to structure a day around nearby heritage sites and local eateries before returning to the hotel each evening.

Why Stay at Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street

Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street Formerly Quayside suits travellers who prioritise a central, walkable Melaka City Center base over a large-scale, amenity-heavy resort experience. With a 9.1 location score from 609 Traveloka reviewers, the property's biggest strength by guest consensus is clearly where it sits — inside Bandar Hilir, close to the historic core and the general Jonker Street vicinity that gives the hotel its name. The 39-room scale also means the property avoids the impersonal feel that can come with much larger city hotels, while the 8.6 scores for cleanliness and room comfort suggest guests have generally found the rooms well-kept for the category.

If your priority for a Melaka trip is proximity to the old town rather than on-site extras like a pool or full-service restaurant, this property is a reasonable fit. Travellers who want to compare it against other options in the same part of town can also browse other hotels in Melaka on Traveloka to weigh choices side by side before booking.

Tips for Booking Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street on Traveloka

A few practical points worth keeping in mind when booking this property.

  1. Since the hotel has previously operated as "Quayside," double-check you are booking the correct current listing — Sunday Malacca Near Jonker Street Formerly Quayside — especially if you found the property referenced under its older name elsewhere.
  2. With only 39 rooms across two floors, availability for popular dates (weekends, school holidays, and around the Jonker Street night market) can be limited, so booking ahead is sensible.
  3. Check-in is from 3:00 PM and check-out is before 12:00 PM; if you need early check-in or late check-out, it is worth confirming directly with the front desk given the property's smaller scale.
  4. Because the hotel does not list a restaurant or pool among its facilities, budget some extra time in your itinerary to explore Melaka City Center's dining and leisure options nearby rather than expecting to stay on-site all day.
  5. A modest deposit and standard local charges may apply at check-in, as is typical for Melaka hotels of this size — confirm current policy details on the booking page before you arrive.

Conveniently located near Jonker Street and historical sites, the room was spacious and good value for money. I stayed for two nights, but the room was not cleaned, so I had to request towel replacement and trash disposal. Unfortunately, breakfast was not available at the facility adjacent to the hotel. Due to weekend traffic restrictions, I was unable to find a nearby GRAB pickup point, so I had to walk along unfamiliar roads.

The location is absolutely the best. The room is also quite clean, spacious, and comfortable for that price. The public space is also comfortable. I saw a shared water dispenser and iron. If I go to Malacca again, I want to stay here again. The only downside is the noise from the pedicabs that play dar der dor music until around 12 am. But since my intention was to travel, not to rest, so it was okay for me.

The room didn't seem well maintained. The wooden floor looked very dirty and covered in scratches. It definitely needed refinishing. The bathroom tile grout looked dirty. The shower jet in the closet suddenly broke in the early morning, spraying water all over the bathroom. There were very few TV channels and the broadcast quality was poor.

Good hotel if you want to explore around jonker/red church by foot. However if you want to explore around with car/bike search other hotels that provide parking and won’t be blocked by night market on the weekends
