Excellent Hotel. Very friendly staff. Very easy access to downtown. Took us 10 minutes to walk to downtown cable car site. If you need any supermarket items, the mall is right downstairs and there is a nice supermarket there also. There is filtered water on every floor in a machine. The breakfast is also excellent. Great coffee machine, selection of fruits and cheeses and breads, as well as numerous hot entrees. Also, very big plus was we rented a car and used the free parking in the downstairs garage. You need to go to the private parking lot, which is next to the mall pkg lot entrance.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were always excellent. We particularly enjoyed visiting the rooftop (terrace) bar, especially during its "happy hour"! Mixed feelings about our room. Although undoubtedly stylish, it was surprisingly dark and we thoroughly disliked the needlessly complex lighting controls. We would also have preferred a more complete separation of "private" facilities (toilet and shower) from the other living quarters.

The room is very very small. Not enough space to even keep the suitcases. Don’t be amazed by the excellent reviews. I doub’t if these are genuine. I paid £150 per day for 4 days and not impressed with the room size. The bathroom design is also horrible, no privacy and these to designed to save the space. The wash basin serves no purpose. If you wash your hand or face water spills every where. The design is also too dark and there is absolutely no view from the room (just the roof top of shopping mall). The staff was very helpful and good. Breakfast was nice and roof top bar and pool is also good. Jacuzzi and steam room is worned out. Some tiles were even missing. Will I stay again? NO. Will I recommend? NO.

I stayed at the property from December 2 to December 6. How was arriving very early on December 3 to the facility and didn’t know if my room will be ready so I purposely got a stay for the night before even though I wasn’t gonna arrive till the third. Upon arrival, there was confusion at the front desk, but after that was sorted, we went to the room to take a quick power nap because we had woken up very early in the morning to board our flight. Someone working the premises entered our room at around 10 AM without knocking and seemed confused that we were already in the room and asked us if we were checking out. I told her no, we had just checked in and she immediately left. About 15 minutes later another cleaning lady burst in without knocking and I immediately said to her that this room is occupied. She yelped in surprise and scurried out. After these offense, I went down to the front desk to tell the receptionist to confirm that our room is marked as we have been checked in, and to ensure that nobody else is coming into our room unannounced I explained to her what had happened and that two people had come in on two different occasions without knocking. She explained to me that they usually always knock. I told her that they did not and that it is unacceptable and to make sure that everybody knows that that room is now occupied. There was no apology or understanding from the lady at the front desk. This is a huge violation of privacy and I do not recommend this hotel.

I loved the rooftop bar which has spectacular views over Funchal and a great selection of drinks and light meals. Happy Hour was always a favourite!. The UVA restaurant is well worth a visit and offers a good price/quality ratio. The staff are efficient, cheerful and friendly. I have no real downers - may be the turn down service was earlier than expected but I'm nitpicking here.

The property is centrally located and within walking distance to almost everything, which was very convenient. Parking was available and was one of the main reasons we booked, although it was a little tricky to find at first. There is also a shopping center on the lower levels of the hotel, which was handy whenever we needed something. Overall, I would describe this as an average hotel and nothing really stood out to make it feel like a true five star property. It is pretty enough, but we did not use many of the amenities such as the pool or gym, so I cannot comment on those. We did book a spa treatment, and that was a major disappointment. The experience felt very amateur and far from relaxing. It was essentially just oil being rubbed up and down or uncomfortable hand movements that did not target any muscle tension. The room itself was bare and basic, with no robes, no slippers, and a hard bed in what felt like a basement. It certainly did not feel luxurious, especially given the premium price. What was meant to be something special turned into a waste of two hours and a lot of money. Back in New York, I have had much better massages for a fraction of the cost. If you are considering the spa here, I would strongly recommend doing some research first because it did not meet the standards of a proper spa experience.

Great location in Funchal! Perfect walking distance to everything — especially convenient after a long day of hiking and sightseeing when you want to just wander for dinner. The rooftop pool was stunning, with plenty of loungers to choose from. Such a relaxing spot to unwind. They also host nightly performers, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The entertainment felt top-notch (definitely not cheesy), and I loved it! The daily breakfast buffet on the terrace was a wonderful touch — a great way to start the day. ✨ Highly recommend!

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the staff made us feel welcome and were always very friendly and efficient. The hotel is small enough for everything to feel quite personal and it is in a great location just on the edge of the old town, making it an easy walk to get around without the need for buses and taxis, unless you want to go further afield. The room was spacious and well appointed with possibly one of the largest beds I have encountered in a hotel. Great walk in shower and a good sized bath too. Breakfast was excellent, with an extensive selection to choose from, including fresh fruit, cereals, cheeses and cold meats, pastries, different breads and also a good range of cooked options. The whole experience made our stay in Funchal memorable

The Vine was an excellent hotel in a great location. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I would particularly highlight Hermes, Carmo, Bernardo and Jorges in the bar, the restaurant and at breakfast. It was a shame that my room upgrade was not available but the room we had was still nice. The Vine is easy walking distance to the harbour, the old town and multiple restaurants. The rooftop pool, bar and restaurant are also a fantastic place to spend time.
