We have stayed here several times. Most recently in the build up to our wedding at Hensol Castle. The facilities and rooms are great, the breakfast is fantastic and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. We are staying again tomorrow night and very much looking forward to it.

There for a wedding so the hotel room came in handy for family to rest and change clothes, the room was spacious and clean and the bed was comfy . We were unable to check in until after 5.30 because of a delay with the linen services, but they were apologetic and gave us a free bottle of wine with dinner. Our room was good, large and clean. One of the brackets on the shower head was broken, but the rain shower worked. However one of our party did not have any water in their room on the second day, so had to be transferred to another room to shower. There was also some work/maintenance happening, which we weren't aware of, but it didn't really effect us. One bar didn't have any ice because the ice machine had been broken for two weeks and no full fat coke. However, the food in the vale grill restaurant was very good and the waiter who served us was excellent, so that balanced everything out! Breakfast was also good, lots of choice. Husband enjoyed the golf too!

Probably great if you are a golf and spa person. However, if you had other ideas, such hiking and have no vehicle, not great. There is a hiking trail that starts behind the Golf Club where they store the golf carts (it took us a few hours to find it as the instructions how to get to it were hard to find). The trail (Vale Trail 8) takes you through boggy bug infested fields for hours before you get to the forest, but we never made it, somehow losing the trail and running out of water). So, unless all you want to do is golf or get a few very expensive spa treatments, not much else to do. They don’t even have foot paths around the property or to Hensol Castle, just a little walk around the lake and a few benches that are for residents only and obviously don’t like resorts visitors using them. The food we ordered was not very good, lots of salt!! Even the breakfast buffet was inferior to a good local shop. Not sure why they had such poor chefs, but would have expected more from a 4 star resort. The room was nice, fairly clean, and the bathroom was amazing, bath and walk in shower. The beds were hard, but still better then the box springs mattress you get at a regular hotel. No personal laundry, vending , or ice area, but there were cheap drinks at the Golf Shop and they were happy to give or bring us a bucket of ice from the bar, no charge. The staff were very nice and helpful. If you are driving, the parking accommodative looked very good, they even had electric plugs points.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay. The room was lovely, comfortable, and we slept really well, making for a relaxing visit. While there is some room for improvement with cleanliness and a warmer, friendlier welcome from the staff, these were relatively minor points. With a little more attention to these areas, this would be an excellent place to stay. We’d happily consider returning in the future.

Air con centrally controlled. When queried, staff said they would switch it over so that I could control it myself (during the heatwave). Despite asking twice, it never happened, Had to ask for a fridge, which I thought would have been standard in a 4* hotel. Patio door to balcony was locked with a key and some sort of wire that had seen better days. Lovely lounge bar but closed during our stay. Breakfast was ok, but help yourself to hot drinks via machines, losing the chance to interact either staff. Plenty of staff milling around but not clearing tables until guests had left. Shoutout to Hayley in the grill bar for her amazing iced coffees. What a joy she was. Happy and friendly. Missed her on her day off!

I booked on behalf of my parents and when I tried to ask the property a question it was quite a mission. My Expedia message was ignored, my phone call directly to the hotel rang for nearly 15 minutes with no answer leaving me to find a contact email instead. This was answered by the hotel a day later. A bit frustrating as I only had a quick question that shouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes to sort. However, my parents were pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel and standards of the room. They did, however, find themselves amongst a wedding booking on the first night and said the bar area was busy, under staffed and with tables not being cleared. The following evening was much more relaxed though so I guess it is the luck of the drawer.
