Salalah International Airport, code SLL, is the main airport of Oman's southern Dhofar Governorate. Its current passenger terminal opened in 2015, and the airport is run by Oman Airports. It links Salalah with Muscat, with cities around the Gulf and with some destinations further afield.
The airport sits about 5.5 km northeast of Salalah city centre. The drive into town is short, and many hotels along the coast are within easy reach.
The terminal is spacious and modern, with air-conditioned boarding bridges and plenty of seating. Departing passengers go upstairs after check-in for passport control, security and the gate area. Facilities include:
The airport also has a long runway of about 4,000 metres.
Oman Air and SalamAir both base services here, with frequent flights to Muscat. Other airlines serving Salalah include flydubai and Air Arabia, and there are links to India too. Seasonal charter flights bring holidaymakers from Europe. The route map can change through the year, so check what is flying on your dates.
Taxis wait outside arrivals, and several car rental desks operate at the terminal. Renting a car is popular, as many of Dhofar's sights are spread out along the coast and in the mountains.
Al Baleed Archaeological Park, part of the UNESCO-listed Land of Frankincense, lies by the sea in the city. Wadi Darbat, with its waterfalls and green valley, and the blowholes at Mughsail Beach are favourite trips out of town.
The khareef monsoon, roughly July to September, turns the hills green and brings many visitors from across the Gulf. Flights and hotels fill up fast in this period, so plan ahead.
