The gentleman on reception on the night of 5th July was very friendly and welcoming and was keen to engage in conversation which was nice. We were worried about checking in after the allotted time due to a concert which finished late but this was of no issue whatsoever. He advised us that unfortunately no food was served there but pointed us in the direction of a nearby takeaway. As we didnt arrive until 1.30am we literally just used to room to sleep, which I did very easily. The double private room we were given was basic which is all we beeded, but very spacious which was lovely. It also had a very spacious en suite with shower. The location was about a 20 minute walk from where we we parked in the Q-Park mailbox carpark on Royal Mail street, although I would probably just advise getting a taxi there as it's only about £6. The only negative would be that the girl on reception the following morning wasn't very friendly and seemed a little abrupt. She wasn't helpful at all either, when we asked if she had any local taxi firm numbers she just said no I don't but you can use Uber. I was quite surprised that sheb was so unwilling to help. Obviously if we used Uber services we would have no need to ask, but we do not use them or the app, hence why we needed a number for a taxi firm. She just left us to sit in the lobby area whilst we looked for a number online outselves. Maybe it would have been helpful to have a list of phone numbers for reputable taxi firms at reception.

Staff on reception were welcoming and helpful. Room was perfect for our needs. Although some extra attention to cleaning under the bed and cobwebs on the windows could be desired and we found the bathroom very cold although we had no problem with hot water that was great. We had a private double room with our own bathroom. The room did have some signs of wear and tear for example peeling paint and a lamp didn’t work but it didn’t affect our stay , I would stay again. We used the communal lounge To eat a meal which was clean and tidy and stair entrance and lobby were all clean and welcoming.

I stayed in a double ensuite room, which was pleasantly spacious and comfortable. The check-in/check-out process was straightforward, and the front desk staff were helpful. They let me store my luggage before check-in, which was convenient. However, there were some hygiene issues that detracted from the experience. The lampshades and bedside table weren't properly cleaned, and the bathroom soap appeared old with oil droplets floating in it (though perhaps that's just the type they use?). The bathroom itself was spacious, which was a plus. The most concerning incident was when the fire alarm went off around 6am. Only myself and one other guest made it to reception, where we stood in our pajamas for several minutes with no instructions or staff present. Eventually, someone appeared to tell us it was a false alarm, but the lack of response was worrying from a safety perspective.

My friend & I shared a double room for 1 night & were really impressed with Malacuna. Room was compact but perfectly functional & well kitted out. The whole place was VERY CLEAN & staff were available & helpful. Check-in process was simple (remember some ID!) & breakfast was healthy & substantial. We will definitely use Malacuna again

We stayed in a standard double room for 2 nights, and everything went well. The room was basic (bed, small table, a small rail with some clothes hangers, no TV) but clean. The bed was comfortable. The only odd thing about our stay was the breakfast. We added breakfast at the time of booking. We went down reception/bar area in the morning and informed the team member we had breakfast with our booking, and both times we were simply told, "Have a seat and we'll bring it over to you." We were not asked any questions about preference, allergy, or dietary requirements. After a short while a bowl of yoghurt topped with granola and a heated fresh made ham and cheese toastie were brought over to us. This is the first time we've ever had breakfast at a hotel where we were simply told, "We'll bring your breakfast to you." without any further questions. This would have been awkward if we were vegetarian, gluten intolerant, lactose intolerant, or a few other things. Breakfast also didn't come with the option of a latte, although they had the ability to make them. It was only offered with tea or filtered coffee. The team were friendly, and the location was very good. It was on a quiet street, but still just a 10-15 minute walk to the centre of Birmingham. Next to the hotel was a brewery taproom which we could also recommend.

Got into the room which was small but nice and clean. Went to bed after seeing a show to rest before catching a flight the next day. Was widely awoken before 8am by scaffolders outside working on the building and maintainance men working on the doors near to our room. This was not disclosed by the hotel on arrival s

Room was warm with radiator not attention to detail with person on the desk .. no towels given and none in the room … room right next to the door people coming in and out of so could hear everything and the numerous people on the phones. In a rush to leave early morning then made to wait a few minutes etc to check the booking which made no sense as it was all paid and checked for on line and night before. Bit of a shame as the room itself was lovely and cosy
