Location: Perfect. Because it's near Burnham Park, Good Taste restaurant, Foam Coffee, Harrison Street, Baguio Night Market, Session Road, Vizco's, Baguio Cathedral, sm baguio. Also, beside it, is a grocery store.💯. Food: Perfect. Because you can get as much as what you can consume. They served garlic rice, steamed rice, scrambled eggs, dried fish, hotdogs, pork steak, breads and jams, coffee, juice, salad and fruits.💯. Room: Good. Because I'm not sure if other parts of the room is clean. But definitely the bathroom needs to be scrubbed. The AC unit was loud from time to time. And, there's no room slippers provided. Also, they need to change their old towels, and their busted lights as well. Good thing their bed linens and comforters are clean. Staffs: Perfect. (Even if my request was not followed.) Front desk ladies were kind and accommodating. Every staff we see greets us politely.💯. Thank you, Hotel Veniz Burnham!

What to Eat and Where to Find It in Baguio City Proper

Baguio City Proper's culinary scene is a delightful exploration of Cordilleran flavours and Filipino staples, offering a distinct gastronomic journey for international visitors. Beyond the usual Filipino fare, the city is renowned for its unique highland produce and dishes influenced by its cooler climate. Think strawberries, ube (purple yam), and hearty stews that provide a comforting contrast to the typical tropical cuisine found elsewhere in the Philippines. This regional distinctiveness makes dining in Baguio a highlight for many travellers.

For an authentic taste of Baguio, exploring local markets and food streets is essential. The Baguio City Public Market is a worth visiting, offering fresh produce, local delicacies like strawberry taho, and a vibrant atmosphere. Areas around Session Road and Burnham Park also host numerous eateries, from casual carinderias serving home-style Filipino meals to cafes offering local coffee blends. For Muslim travellers, finding Halal-certified eateries might require some research, but many restaurants are accommodating and can prepare dishes with Halal ingredients upon request, especially in more tourist-frequented areas.

Dining in Baguio City Proper offers excellent value for international travellers. Street food and local eateries can provide a filling meal for as little as ₱100-₱200 (approximately $2-$4 USD), a fraction of what similar street food might cost in Western cities. Mid-range restaurants typically charge between ₱400-₱800 (approximately $8-$16 USD) per person for a complete meal, while upscale dining experiences might range from ₱1,000-₱2,000 (approximately $20-$40 USD) or more. This affordability allows visitors from the US, Europe, and India to savour a wide variety of local flavours without significant budget strain.

When dining in Baguio City Proper, understanding local customs enhances the experience. Meal times are generally similar to Western schedules, with lunch around noon and dinner from 6 PM to 8 PM. Tipping is not mandatory but is appreciated for excellent service, with a 10% tip being customary. It's polite to wait to be seated and to use your right hand for eating or passing food. Be open to trying local specialties, and don't hesitate to ask for recommendations from restaurant staff or locals for an authentic taste of Baguio.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Baguio City Proper

Navigating the cultural landscape of Baguio City Proper involves an appreciation for local customs that may differ from what international visitors are accustomed to. Filipinos are generally known for their hospitality and politeness, and Baguio is no exception. A key aspect is the concept of "pakikisama," which emphasizes smooth interpersonal relationships and community harmony. Visitors should be mindful of noise levels, especially in residential areas, and show respect for elders and authority figures. Understanding these nuances can lead to more meaningful interactions.

When visiting Baguio City Proper, particularly its landmarks and public spaces, adhering to local etiquette is important. Dress modestly when visiting churches or more traditional sites; casual wear is generally acceptable elsewhere, but overly revealing clothing might attract unwanted attention. Photography is usually permitted, but it's always courteous to ask permission before taking close-up photos of individuals. Queuing is common practice, and visitors should respect the order of lines at shops, transport stops, and attractions. Being patient and courteous goes a long way in fostering positive interactions.

Safety in Baguio City Proper is generally good, with the city being one of the more peaceful urban centres in the Philippines. However, as with any travel destination, exercising common sense is crucial. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas like markets or bus terminals. For transportation, stick to reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps like Grab, which are widely available and offer fare transparency. Having offline maps and emergency contact numbers readily accessible on your phone can also be very helpful.

In case of emergencies in Baguio City Proper, local police can be reached at their emergency hotline. For medical assistance, inquire at your hotel for the nearest hospital or clinic. While there isn't a specific "tourist police" unit as in some major international cities, the local police are generally helpful to visitors. For travellers from the US, UK, India, or African nations, knowing the contact details of your respective embassy or consulate in the Philippines is advisable for any serious issues. It's also recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and other unforeseen events.

Getting to Baguio City Proper and Getting Around

Reaching Baguio City Proper from other parts of the Philippines is primarily done via air travel to nearby airports, followed by a land transfer. The most common gateway is Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga, which serves numerous international and domestic flights, including those from Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB). From CRK, travellers can take a bus or arrange a private transfer to Baguio City Proper, a journey of approximately 3-4 hours. Direct flights to Baguio's own smaller airport are limited, making land travel from major hubs the standard. Booking a book flight to CRK is often the most efficient first step.

Once you arrive in Baguio City Proper, navigating the city is relatively straightforward and affordable. Taxis and ride-sharing services like Grab are readily available and are a convenient option for direct travel between locations. For a more local experience and budget-friendly travel, jeepneys are the primary mode of public transport, with various routes covering most parts of the city. These iconic Filipino vehicles are an adventure in themselves. Tricycles are also common for shorter distances within neighbourhoods. The cost for a taxi or Grab ride within the city typically ranges from ₱100-₱300 (approximately $2-$6 USD), while jeepney fares are significantly lower.

The best time to visit Baguio City Proper for international travellers generally falls during the dry season, from November to May. During these months, the weather is cooler and less prone to rain, making it ideal for exploring the city's outdoor attractions and enjoying its scenic beauty. Peak tourist season, particularly around the Christmas holidays and the Panagbenga Festival in February, sees higher hotel prices and larger crowds. For those seeking a quieter experience and potentially lower rates, the shoulder months of November or March can offer a good balance.
