I stayed 4 days 3 nights and it was great! The owner Ms. Gigi and all her staff are very accommodating and kind. The place have a very relaxing ambiance, imagine waking up with all these birds chirping and a breath of fresh air from the vast garden where I loved to eat breakfast before our tour. I highly recommend this place specially to those who really wants to disconnect himself from a busy world for just a few days just to lose yourselves and find your new self once again.

The allure of Tara is amplified by its diverse geographical tapestry, a characteristic that significantly shapes the visitor experience. From the more developed hub of Poblacion, offering a convenient base with essential amenities, to the secluded allure of Malaroyroy and the pristine, untouched beauty of Sangat Island and Busuanga, each locale offers a distinct flavour. The vibe here is one of sophisticated serenity, perfect for honeymooners or those desiring a peaceful retreat.

While Malaroyroy might be more focused on in-resort activities, its natural beauty is its primary draw. For an authentic dining experience, exploring the local markets and smaller eateries in areas like Poblacion is highly recommended. These spots often serve the most traditional and flavourful dishes at affordable prices. For Muslim travellers, while the Philippines is predominantly Catholic, finding Halal options might require some inquiry. Many establishments can prepare dishes without pork or with specific ingredients upon request, especially in more tourist-frequented areas. It’s always advisable to communicate dietary needs clearly to ensure a comfortable dining experience.

The cost of dining in Tara offers excellent value for international visitors. Street food and local eateries can provide a hearty meal for as little as ₱150-₱300 (approximately $3-$6 USD), a fraction of what similar fare might cost in Western countries. Mid-range restaurants typically charge between ₱500-₱1,000 ($10-$20 USD) per person for a full meal, while upscale dining experiences can range from ₱1,500 upwards ($30+ USD). This affordability allows travellers from the US, Europe, and India to explore a wide variety of local delicacies without significant budget strain.

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Tara

Understanding and respecting local customs is key to a fulfilling visit to Tara. Filipinos are known for their hospitality and politeness, and a friendly demeanor goes a long way. Simple greetings like "Magandang umaga" (Good morning) or "Salamat" (Thank you) are appreciated. When visiting local communities or homes, it’s customary to bring a small gift. Public displays of affection are generally more reserved than in Western cultures, and it’s important to dress modestly when visiting religious sites or rural areas.

When visiting popular sites like Tara Island, maintaining respect for the environment and local traditions is crucial. Dress appropriately, especially when visiting villages or interacting with elders; swimwear is generally acceptable at beaches and resorts but not in town centres or religious places. Always ask for permission before taking photographs of people, particularly children. Queuing is generally observed, and patience is a virtue, especially in more remote areas where services might operate at a more relaxed pace.

Tara is generally a safe destination for international travellers, but standard precautions should always be taken. Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas. For transportation, utilize reputable tricycles or taxis, and consider using ride-hailing apps if available in the main town for added security and transparent pricing. Having offline maps downloaded and a local SIM card can be very helpful for navigation and communication, ensuring you can easily find your way and stay connected.

In case of emergencies, the local police and medical services are available. For specific concerns, travellers can contact the Philippine National Police. It is also advisable for Filipino travellers to be aware of their nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate in case of passport issues or other consular needs, though this is less relevant for domestic travel within the Philippines. For any health concerns, ensuring you have adequate travel insurance that covers medical emergencies is a wise precaution, providing peace of mind throughout your journey.
