The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) is devoted to exploring the rich artistic heritage of Asia, especially the ancestral cultures of Singaporeans. Opened in 1997 and in its present building by the Singapore River since 2003, the museum traces its roots to the Raffles Museum, founded in the middle of the 19th century. ACM focuses on the many historical connections between the cultures of Asia, and between Asia and the world. Singapore’s history as a port city that brought people together from all over the world is used as a means of examining the history of Asia. You'll encounter many interesting attractions when you visit this cultural hub, such as:

    1. Tang Shipwreck Exhibition

    2. Kwek Hong Png Wing Collection

Discover the Kwek Hong Png Wing, the museum's first contemporary art space located on the ground floor. On the third floor of the wing, you can marvel at over 300 exquisite Chinese ceramics from the museum's extensive collection. One notable artifact is a small figure of Amitabha Buddha seated atop the headdress, representing the figure as Guanyin. Guanyin is accompanied by a lion, symbolizing the powerful enlightenment known as "Simhanada."

This specific depiction originated in 11th or 12th century India as Simhanada Avalokiteshvara, with the earliest Chinese example, Shi Hou Guanyin, dating back to the 12th century.

    4. Explore the Islamic Art Collection

Through a diverse range of objects encompassing religious, secular, courtly, and scientific realms, the gallery offers a profound exploration of Islamic values, inviting visitors to admire the intricate beauty and varied expressions found within Islamic art.

This collection features exquisite works of religious art crafted by and for Muslims across Asia, with a special focus on Southeast Asia. It vividly illustrates how global concepts of Islamic art were creatively adapted across different regions, resulting in distinctive visual forms that bear the influence of local traditions.
