We stayed one night after flying into Manila. The rooftop pool and bar were a plus after a flight. The hotel is in a great location, an easy walk from Terminal 3. There are lots of food options very close to the hotel and in a nice area. The room had lots of space for a family of four.

Staff are very warm and accommodating. The texture of the sands is quite different from other stations very powdery. Good selection of breakfast buffet not too grand but it is what it is. But the wifi connection is quit slow but its okay. Most important is the beach. Thank you Henann Prime will come back soon. ❤️

The culinary scene is equally diverse, with areas like Malate and Binondo (Chinatown) offering a spectrum of local delicacies and international cuisines.

For travellers arriving from Singapore, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) serves as the primary gateway, with numerous domestic flights connecting to other major islands. Dishes often balance sweet, sour, and salty notes, a characteristic that sets them apart from many other Southeast Asian cuisines. Exploring these flavours is an integral part of understanding the Filipino culture and its people. When it comes to experiencing authentic Filipino food, venturing into local eateries, "carinderias," and bustling markets is highly recommended. In Manila, areas like Binondo (Chinatown) offer a plethora of Chinese-Filipino fusion dishes, while Malate provides a diverse range of restaurants. For Muslim travellers from Singapore, finding halal options requires a bit more research; while pork is a common ingredient in many traditional dishes, many establishments in major cities like Manila and Cebu offer halal-certified meats or have dedicated menus. It's always advisable to inquire about halal preparation or seek out restaurants in areas known for their Muslim communities. The Philippines' diverse geography translates into regional culinary specialties that are worth exploring. For instance, Cebu is famed for its "lechon" (roast pig), considered by many to be the best in the country, with its crispy skin and succulent meat. In the Bicol region, expect dishes infused with chili and coconut milk, such as "laing" (taro leaves in coconut milk) and "Bicol Express." Meanwhile, the cool climate of Baguio lends itself to unique treats like strawberry taho and locally grown vegetables, showcasing how the environment shapes the local palate and ingredients. Dining in the Philippines is generally a relaxed affair. While tipping is not mandatory, it is appreciated for good service, with a 10% tip being customary. Meal times are similar to Singapore, with lunch typically between 12 PM and 2 PM, and dinner from 6 PM to 8 PM. Portion sizes are usually generous, and sharing dishes is common. Don't be afraid to try street food from reputable vendors, as it's often a delicious and affordable way to sample local snacks and delicacies. Learning a few basic Filipino phrases like "Masarap!" (Delicious!) can also enhance your dining interactions.

Local Etiquette & Safety

Cultural Norms and Staying Safe in Philippines

Filipino culture is renowned for its warmth, hospitality, and strong sense of community. One of the most striking aspects for Singaporean visitors is the concept of "pakikisama," which translates to smooth interpersonal relationships and a willingness to go along with the group. This often manifests as a gentle, indirect communication style and a strong emphasis on politeness. It's common to use titles like "Sir" or "Ma'am" when addressing elders or superiors, and a smile goes a long way. Understanding and respecting these social nuances will greatly enhance your interactions with locals. When visiting religious sites, such as churches or mosques, maintaining a respectful demeanour is paramount. Dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, and always ask permission before taking photographs, especially of people. In commercial settings or public transport, patience and politeness are key. While queues might not always be as orderly as in Singapore, maintaining your composure and waiting your turn is appreciated. Engaging in friendly conversation and showing genuine interest in local customs will often be met with reciprocal warmth and helpfulness from Filipinos. For Singaporean travellers, personal safety in the Philippines is generally comparable to other major Southeast Asian cities, but it's always wise to exercise caution. Keep your belongings secure, especially in crowded areas like markets and public transport. Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid displaying excessive wealth. When using taxis or ride-sharing services, opt for reputable companies or apps like Grab, which is widely available in major cities, and ensure the meter is used or the fare is agreed upon beforehand. Staying aware of your environment is the best defence against petty crime. In case of emergencies, the national emergency number is 911. For Singaporeans travelling abroad, it's always prudent to register your travel details with the Singapore High Commission in the Philippines. Having comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen events is highly recommended. It's also wise to have digital copies of important documents like your passport and flight details stored securely online. Staying informed about local conditions and heeding any travel advisories from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore is also a sensible precaution.

Travel Guide to Philippines

Getting to Philippines and Getting Around

Singaporean travellers have numerous convenient options for reaching the Philippines. Direct flights from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) to Manila (MNL) and Cebu (CEB) are frequent, operated by airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Scoot, and Cebu Pacific, with flight durations typically around 3.5 to 4 hours. Prices can vary significantly based on the season and booking time, but booking in advance can secure more favourable fares. For those looking to explore beyond the main hubs, domestic flights connect the numerous islands, making island hopping an accessible reality. Planning your book flight well in advance is recommended for the best deals. Navigating the Philippines once you've arrived involves a mix of transport modes. Inter-island travel is primarily facilitated by domestic flights, which are efficient for covering long distances between major islands like Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. For shorter distances or within island groups, ferries and fast craft services are common and offer scenic journeys. Within cities, options range from taxis and ride-sharing apps like Grab to the iconic jeepneys and tricycles, providing a truly local experience. For longer overland journeys, comfortable air-conditioned buses are available, particularly for travel between cities on Luzon. The best time to visit the Philippines from Singapore generally falls within the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, you can expect sunny skies and lower humidity, ideal for beach activities and exploring the islands. However, this period also coincides with peak tourist season, meaning higher prices for flights and accommodation, and larger crowds at popular destinations. The shoulder months of November and February can offer a good balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds, while the wet season (May to October) might see lower prices but also carries the risk of typhoons and heavy rainfall. Before embarking on your Philippine adventure, ensure you have your travel essentials sorted. The local currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP). While major credit cards are accepted in hotels and larger establishments, carrying cash is essential for smaller vendors, local markets, and transport. You can exchange currency at the airport or in major cities, with rates generally favourable against the Singapore Dollar (SGD). Purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival is easy and affordable, providing data for navigation and communication. Essential apps include Grab for transport and local weather apps.

Visa

Entry Requirements for Singaporean Passport Holders in the Philippines

Singaporean passport holders enjoy visa-free entry into the Philippines for tourism and business purposes. This allows for a comfortable and convenient travel experience, eliminating the need for pre-arranged visas for short stays. Upon arrival, immigration officers will typically grant an entry permit for an initial period of stay, which is usually 30 days. This visa-free arrangement is a significant advantage for Singaporeans looking for spontaneous getaways or short business trips to the archipelago. To benefit from the visa-free entry, Singaporean travellers must ensure their passport is valid for at least six months beyond their intended period of stay in the Philippines. It is also crucial to possess a confirmed return or onward ticket, as immigration authorities may request proof of departure from the country. While not always mandatory for short stays, having comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and unforeseen circumstances is highly recommended for peace of mind during your trip. It is important for all travellers to stay informed about the latest entry requirements, as immigration policies can be subject to change. While visa-free entry is currently standard for Singaporean citizens, it is always best practice to verify the most up-to-date regulations with the official Embassy of the Philippines in Singapore or the Bureau of Immigration Philippines website before your travel date. This proactive approach ensures a smooth and hassle-free entry into the country.
