I stayed overnight at The Grand York recently and had a lovely experience. I had a late check-in and Nigel (the porter) arranged a table at a lovely restaurant nearby for me. The room was extremely nice (there was one minor issue which I raised with staff the next day, but wasn’t anything major that it detracted from my stay). I found the hotel easy to get to and all the staff I came across were friendly, polite and professional. I also loved the granola at breakfast - it was extremely delicious (as were the full english breakfast, fruits and yoghurts I had) I only had an overnight stay due to business, but plan on visiting York for leisure longer (this was my first time) and The Grand York will absolutely be my first choice of accommodation !

Wonderful night away. The Grand is in a great location, close to the train station. The staff are so helful and friendly . Comfortable bedroom that had everything we needed.. dressing gown, slippers, luxury toiletries . We would highly recommend staying here.

Great hotel in a good location, always a pleasure to stay here. But this time we were disappointed to find the free pool now costs £45 each to use!! In addition the hotel also used to discount the nearest car park but not any more, and so that cost us £31 for 25 hours. Last thing, there was no milk with the greet selection of teas and coffees in the room, so we skipped that and went to Starbucks next door after checking out.

I was expecting a stay in a historic building, but as it turns out the hotel has a bolt on new wing and this was a surprise as our rooms were in the new building. Room was nice, but booking felt like a bait and switch. Buyer beware- probably best to book by phone so you know what you’re getting in advance.

Room service was too slow (apparently the request went to the wrong department!). And hotels.com don’t tell you there’s a charge to use the pool/spa of £45 per person!

A truly wonderful stay over the festive period. The new spa is lovely and room 452 was SO quiet and spacious, highly recommended. The only downside which I pointed out two years ago is that the shower lets the room down as it’s not powerful enough and looks dated too. A short taxi ride or lovely walk into the centre with everything you could wish for. Please note valet parking is £39.50 and the Soa £45 per person in addition to the room. Concierge and FOH staff are very attentive. Breakfast is wonderful, so many choices including à la carte at no extra cost.
