DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel and Spa

room was very outdated and in need of a lot of TLC. Reception desk was undermanned when a lot of guests were trying to check in.

Disappointed unfortunately. Blood stain on mattress protector and although the bedroom was large, the furniture was shabby and in need of replacement. The spa area was tired. Some of the grout needs replacing. One member of breakfast staff was really stolen could not even crack a smile. My husband ordered some champagne to the room as a birthday surprise but despite 2 Reminders they still did not bring it. This was probably a nice hotel once unfortunately now not great.

Wonderful hotel in an interesting old building full of character and history, however the rooms desperately need air-conditioning installing because our sleep was very poor as the room was very hot, even with the windows open. Appreciate it may not be possible to install proper integrated a/c systems but at least one of those floor standing plug-in units in each room would make a big difference. Something needs doing to account for these modern hotter climates. Otherwise all good and breakfast was excellent.

The hotel is ina good location, everything is very walkable, albeit Harrogate is hilly. We stayed in a King Room, which had lovely space, however we were disappointed how blandly decorated the room was. The hotel as a whole was lovely, the spa area was a great addition and was perfect for a couple of hours rest after walking around Harrogate. The bar area and patio were also pretty and a great space to reset.

Spa and pool were great and staff very welcoming. Hotel is very grand and sits in its own grounds which was nice. It was a easy walk into Harrogate to the shops, station or park. Room was clean and well serviced but whole hotel could do with some TLC. Only one small lift worked all week. Service at breakfast, bar (food & drinks) was variable. It was sometime necessary to ask for something multiple times, which was a little frustrating. Great selection at breakfast but please fix the toaster, it was either undercooked or trying to set the place on fire. Champagne bar is a little misleading as its part of the main restaurant and although we did manage to get a drink there it was clear this was not normal as we were told there was no where to sit, because the restaurant was fully booked (even though there were bar stools) it was only used for serving the main restaurant only.

+ Rooms was really spacious and clean - bigger than expected and the shower/bathroom was huge - big enough for a bath for sure. Shower was powerful too - The jacuzzi pool in the spa was grimy (there was a plaster in it) and the rooms were very very hot.

We had a lovely night at the hotel. Enjoyed drinks in the beautiful bar, a refreshing swim, a comfortable nights sleep and an excellent breakfast. The staff were really friendly, helpful and at the same time very professional.

This hotel is an iconic landmark in Harrogate so we were excited to stay there, however I found the waiting staff in the bar really quite uninterested in us and the receptionist that I checked out with quite rude. We had booked half board which includes £35 per head for each adult staying at the hotel towards your evening meal. When we checked in we were informed to put all food on our bill and then at checkout it would be deducted by £70.00 this we did but upon checkout I was told that I should have informed the bar staff that we were half board? In the end the receptionist agreed to deduct it but only under duress which she made quite clear. This left a sour taste TBH. On top of that you took the amount that I owed immediately and you still have a pending amount being held on top of this from my bank account which I cannot have access too, this is 6 days later after checkout and even after me calling the hotel to inform them. Are you going to release this money to me or should I charge you interest?

The room was clean. The staff were very helpful and the swimming pool was easy to find in the hotel

Room was very big but dusty and tea and coffee not great. Shower needed to be new as was very rusty.

There was only one lift to bedrooms in operation, at a very busy weekend!

They like to start building works at 8am on a Saturday morning. Too early... only one lift working so took a while to get to higher floors. Still waiting to understand why they have overcharged me!

This was my worst stay at a chain hotel in 15 years. On arrival the car park was unavailable due to a lorry blocking the entrance, and it was there for 30 minutes. My room was dated, too hot, and there was a huge loud vent below the window. On check out I asked for a vat receipt and was told it would be emailed to Expedia, that's not legal, if you charge Vat you must provide a receipt at point of sale. Reception went to see her supervisor and came back saying she could not help, at which point I flagged it was illegal, and she went back to the supervisor again, who came out, and I got a receipt in 15 seconds. My impression from this was the supervisor was either not interested or too lazy to actually do her job. Hotel is in a historic building and facilities suffer as a result, ergonomics in particular are a let down

Hotel was like a building site for the whole of our romantic break. Toymaster 2026 event preparation took over the entire hotel . Also, there was a parking charge of £18/night hidden in the smallprint; nearby street parking only £12 for 24 hours!

Room was good &very clean. My main criticism was the tidying up from the Toymaster convention left the place looking quite messy & was noisy late into the evening & early the next morning. Also £18 a night for parking is ridiculously high

Massive room, lovely and clean. Comfy beds, super shower. Loads of choice at breakfast and they actually bring a teapot of tea to your table. Such a refreshing change. We will book here again

The room was ok on arrival if you look past the stains on the carpet and hole in the hand towel. When I opened the hand towel a big clump of dark brown hair fell out of it. Made me feel sick. Staff were nice. Check in was horrendous with only one person on the desk so a massive queue had formed. They take £100 off your card “in case” you spend anything on your room during your stay. Parking is ridiculous at £18 a night and a tiny car park it’s difficult to find a spot. Preparations for a wedding stopped us using the overflow car park. Restaurant food was barely ok and very expensive. We were asked if we’d like water for the table then charged £4.50 for the pleasure. Saying that breakfast is wonderful with lots of choice. The spa treatments were fully booked all weekend due to the wedding but the pool etc was available. Don’t use the lockers. If you’re lucky enough to get into one you won’t be able to use it again to get your belongings back as the locks are dodgy. The reception staff have to come in and smash the door off to get you your things out. They advertise free WiFi but we could never log on. The TV doesn’t connect either so only the usual channels to watch. All in all with the tired rooms, poor parking and poor food the stay is overpriced and definitely not a luxury stay. I wouldn’t go back.

Nice Victorian building, large clean rooms. The additional meal package I paid for was rather miss sold in that it was not what we expected. Evening dinner food was very forgettable and not of particularly good quality - a disappointment having paid extra for it. Breakfast was a lot better. In hindsight we would have ate out for dinner as felt conned by the package and food was poor. Dinning room was pleasant.

Great hotel nice pool and spa only 5 minutes to shops restaurants and bars

Arrived at hotel to be given a room number 368 that didn’t exist, not a good start after a long journey. Booked in for dinner at hotel restaurant, service was okay but food was disappointing in terms of quantity and not prepared as described by the menu. When this was pointed out to the staff we were told that the menu was changing next week and so this shouldn’t happen again, not good. Our room was very warm, there was no heating on, but when we opened the window to let in some cooler air we realised we were close to the kitchen extract fan pumping out a greasy and unpleasant smell. Overall very disappointing as we use Hilton Double Tree hotels regularly and this particular hotel was not up to the expected standard I’m afraid.
