Mercure Birmingham West Hotel

Always seem to get a room furthest from reception, however clean, comfortable and quiet. Good facilities although can get busy in the pool and gym at certain times, ease of location M5/M6 junction makes for a good overnight business stay. Plenty of car parking (chargeable) and a good 10-15 minute walk into West Bromwich town centre.

The hotel is good looked a bit dated but the inside was really nice. The room itself I had booked a standard double but was allocated a compact double. There were a few stains on the carpet looked like wine and a rack in the sink. These did not affect my stay the bed was comfortable and the room clean. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was good, great selection of food. The only thing I would say let it down was yhe additional £10 for parking

On Saturday night there was a continuous humming in the room and no hot water. On the Sunday morning there was no water at all in the bathroom. I did complain and received a refund, but I won't be staying there again.

The room was decent. Comfy bed. Things were a bit tired in the room like the sink was cracked and chipped. We had room service. It took a decent length of time to get our food. But unfortunately the food wasn’t very hot. Had to eat quite quickly as it was only barely warm. Good price for the room though.

During breakfast coffee machine was not working, no phone in the room, no storage/cupboard in the room, cleanliness was average, asked for boiled egg but was told it will take 15 minutes.

Breakfast was okay, nothing great. Had to pay £10 for parking, which I was not made aware of. The room had some bad stains on the carpet. There was a loud sound all night, felt like being inside a tumble dryer. We have stayed in much nicer hotels in Birmingham which were a lot cheaper.

Ok for work but you wouldn’t want to stay here as a treat.

Room was fine and the food was okay but the rest of the hotel is very run down, especially given the price of the rooms. The pool and spa area was absolutely filthy, and in desperate need of updating. Parking is an additional cost also so be aware of that.

Unfortunately, this hotel does not meet the expectations of a four-star property. The common areas are dirty, and the carpets throughout the hotel are visibly stained and poorly maintained. There are strong and unpleasant odors on the floors, which immediately give a sense of poor hygiene. The room is poorly lit, and the so-called shower is not a proper shower but a bathtub, which is uncomfortable and impractical. The spa area is dirty, including the changing rooms, which is unacceptable for a space meant for relaxation and cleanliness. The breakfast is mediocre, with limited choice and average-to-low quality. It is also worth noting that the four-star rating is absolutely not comparable to Italian four-star standards. By Italian criteria, this hotel would realistically be closer to a two-star property. The only positive aspect of the stay was the staff, who were friendly, polite, and helpful at all times. Overall, the hotel is in serious need of renovation and far better cleaning standards. At its current state, the value for money is disappointing.
