Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia Endau is an authorized agency under the Ministry of Agriculture and Agriculture Base Industry that is responsible to oversee the socio-economy of the fishermen, the community and also developing the fisheries industry of the country. The agency has district offices throughout the country and Endau is one of them. The Endau office is to oversee the fisheries in the area, in the district of Mersing, Johor. This office is located on the border of the state of Johor and Pahang.

How to Get There

By Car

Driving to the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia Endau will take about four hours or so from Kuala Lumpur for a trip of 316 kilometres long. From the town of Mersing, the trip will only take half an hour while from Rompin, Pahang, some one hour and ten minutes.

By Bus

A bus ticket from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, Kuala Lumpur starts from RM 32.80 per one way and the trip will take an estimated of five hours and forty minutes.

Endau-Rompin National Park

This is one of the famous national parks in Malaysia and it is located across Endau of Johor and Rompin of Pahang, covering an astounding area of 870 kilometres squared. It is the second largest national park in Peninsular Malaysia after the Taman Negara. The name Endau-Rompin is obtained from the Endau-Rompin river that flows through the national park. This national park has a 26-kilometres of trails for those who want to explore it. The Gunung Besar of Johor is its park where camping ground is located. This national park started as a small forest reserve to aid the scientific study that was conducted in the area in 1933 before it was expanded by the Wildlife and National Parks Department for wildlife sanctuary especially to protect the endangered Sumatran rhinoceros. Apart from that, the Endau-Rompin National Park is also one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world with the features rock formations from almost 248 million years ago. The national forest is filled with animals such as the Malaysian tiger, Asian elephant, wild boars, tapirs and such. There is also an Orang Asli village, belonging to the Jakun tribe. The national park provides accommodations in the form of chalets and dormitory with a cheap price around RM 100 to RM 150 per night. It also has a number of camping sites and they have tents for rent at RM 40 per night. The national park opens to the public from April to October while closed for the remaining months due to monsoon season.

Endau-Rompin National Park Activities

In the national park, most of the travellers have tour arranged by the private operators which are may be arranged with the park headquarters. Other than that, guides from the park headquarters are available for hire for just RM 50 per day and entry permit is just RM 10. There are several other permits that are available which also requires different charges such as the fishing permits to travel within the park from waterfalls to waterfalls. Due to less exciting activities during the night, it is best to enjoy by joining the night safari tour or simply just camp out under the stars, enjoying the magnificent view of the stars above.
