The Hand Hotel

The room was bright and clean and looked recently refurbished. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was fine except the shower wasn't powerful if you used the handheld head. However the fixed shower head was stronger if you didn't mind getting your hair wet! What really stood out for me was the staff, especially the two brothers who worked there. They were customer friendly and engaging with smiles that lit up a room! A real credit to the hotel and a great asset. Many thanks to them for a lovely stay.

A lovely place to stay. Room clean and comfy, staff welcoming. Breakfast was ok, although only 1 member of Staff to take orders, do drinks, bring food etc on a busy Bank Holiday wkend !! Needed another member of Staff.

The staff were lovely, the room was clean but the hotel was tired. The meal times advertised were not kept to. We wanted an evening meal on the Sunday. The times advertised were 5.30 - 7.45, but when we asked we were told the kitchen closed at 5 on Sunday. Breakfast was good. The hotel served our needs and was not terrible but we thought it expensive for the facilities offered and would not visit again.

The Hand Hotel was ok. It was simply an overnight stop off whilst doing Offa’sDyke walk. A bit tired and dated but at the price, we couldn’t complain

The bedroom was very tired and the bed uncomfortable. The whole place feels like it needs an upgrade. Approaching from outside the hotel has presence.

Amazing staff; very helpful and kind and we cannot recommend them more. Room was dated, but very clean and functional and honestly, it was exactly what we needed for two nights of hiking out into the canals and waterways. Should we come through again, we would happily come back.

Check in process was unclear. Felt like I was inconvenienceng staff by needing to check in. Room was really cold first night. I advised staff of this in morning and was given a heater for second night which helped. The restaurant had not recived their food order so many items were missing. Light in bathroom kept turning off on its own. The only real positive was the breakfast which was good, and the staff member on in the morning was polite and attentive.

We booked a family room it was clean tidy and massive with a double bed and 2 single beds the bathroom was a decent size and had a bath with a shower.

A pet friendly hotel with friendly staffunder recent new ownership. Staff friendly and approachable. Room 8 clean but a problem with the bathroom light switch which staff knew about. I will revisit if in the area again.

room clean and comfortable. Many seating options in bar, cafe area, lounge and super comfy sofas. Tastefully decorated. Fabulous meal in evening and tasty breakfast

Radiators were left on all day and night , room was unbearable non of us could sleep with how warm it was . Shower was hanging off the wall and would only come on scolding hot . Also struggled turning it on / off . Ended u checking out at 8am because no one could sleep . Wouldn’t stay again …

The staff was respectful, polite, kind.

The room was ok, tired, desperately needs updating and the shower had no power so we didn’t use it. Breakfast was pretty awful really, our first morning, we’d booked breakfast for 8:30am but when we went downstairs, the whole hotel was deserted. So we went back up to our room and tried again at 9. A sullen lady told us the chef was running late. We were confused, when we got the menu for breakfast it said breakfast starts at 7:30am. The food was fine and once we finally got breakfast we were satisfied. The second day of our stay was poor. We appeared at 8:45 but there was a young girl on her own, who clearly needed training. She struggled to meet the needs of the customers and couldn’t manage more than one instruction at a time. She’d been left alone which seemed unfair on her. But we had to ask for cereals, then we had to ask for bowls and then milk. My tea was cold and the pot was only 1/4 filled. When I asked for a fresh pot, I got another cold pot only 1/4 full, so I gave up. We had to ask for juice and when we got our order, it was unpleasant to eat. The girl apologised to other customers because she had to go to the shop, for the kitchen, and had forgotten their toast. It was very disappointing to be honest as this hotel is under new ownership…but nothing has changed or improved.

The breakfast was not great. The staff were amazing, and the room was very nice but up stairs with no lift.

It’s very good hotel but the facility is pretty old and I totally understand that. I found a used sop on the shower switch, It’s good hotel I will come again but won’t be stay there for over 2 night. Again it’s more than 400 years old hotel. Can’t complain!
