Whately Hall

I stayed at Whately Hall with my wife and two year old because of its proximity to the annual tractor parade, something we look forward to every year. I booked a two bedroom room for close to £200, expecting a comfortable and family friendly stay. Two days before arrival, we were warned that Christmas parties would be taking place. We immediately asked to be placed as far away from the noise as possible, given we were travelling with a young child. Despite this, our room was clearly positioned where noise would be an issue. What followed was one of the worst hotel nights we have had. Loud music, shouting, and groups of people standing in the courtyard talking and screaming continued well past midnight, finally stopping around 1am. The courtyard acts like an echo chamber, amplifying the noise straight into the rooms. Our son was awake for most of the night, distressed and overtired, which anyone with a toddler will appreciate is not something you can simply ignore. We complained during the night, repeatedly, yet nothing was done. There was no attempt to control guests, no staff presence to manage the situation, and no restrictions on people congregating outside. Highly satisfied with the room basic but clean and warm .staff were very friendly and polite .Location was really good for town and amenities.Would definitely stay again.

Nice hotel, well positioned for the town center...good parking... Room was good apart from a broken lamp and lack of hand soap , sortedout very quickly. ...( could do with a couple of lamps in the room and a brighter bulb in the main light fitting) bed was very good and bathroom excellent. Breakfast was very nice with a good choice of items ... We would definitely stay there again.

We had a junior suite: I loved the amount of space. The decor was tired and it was not very homely due to the lack of furniture and features. There were stains on the walls from damp around the window and the room did not feel fresh and inviting. The lighting in the bedroom was poor despite there being 2 bedside lamps and 1 main ceiling light. There was 1 coffee pod in the room so we needed to request extra to have a coffee in the evening and a coffee when we woke up. There was an unsightly stain in the middle of 1 of the sofa cushions. The bathroom was nice and clean, but again felt a little empty. The good news is that the hotel was installing a brand new carpet in reception. This suggests that there may be a schedule of maintenance and the bedrooms might be renewed. The hotel.has a lot of character, the staff were lovely, the accommodation was sad and tired.

Lovely big clean comfy room. Staff were amazing. Enjoyed a lovely meal in the Sports Bar. Excellent value for money. Would highly recommend.

Top location and rare experience to stay into an old building like that

I love the Whatley though my room was a long way from reception & involved climbing stairs. The lift was being used by noisy builders.

When you first pull up it looks old and grand, unfortunately the back of the hotel looks like a council block. Doesn't do the hotel any justice. The hotel is having a re for, the room was a clean, looked nice, no issue there. The hall way was very untildy, needs new carpet and paint job. It's very run down, with locks broken on doors and hotel doors look very grubby. You can see a lot of work has been done. But also a lot still needs to be done. Breakfast was lovely, no complaints there. Staff all seemed friendly and helpful.

Staff members were great and the room was nice

On arrival the toilet was unclean and the room contained previous stayers rubbish. The room had a broken draw and smashed mirror in the wardrobe with nails on the floor. More attention to detail needed here. The staff were helpful and friendly and service was good. Breakfast was okay, no complaints. The hotel appearance seems like jobs have been started and never finished.

Brilliant breakfast buffets , superb bar and food was excellent and had dart boards 😊

The hotel is as lovely as it looks. I took a Deluxe room in the old building, and it totally lived up to my expectations. The breakfast buffet was excellent. A very nice stay.

Hotel with great atmosphere. It oozes history and looks particularly beautiful with the Christmas decorations.
