Macdonald Aviemore Highland Hotel

The grounds where amazing for our dog and loved the hotel.

Everything was fine until I saw the dogs. You placed us in the same corridor as the dogs, and I am now suffering with various ailments. If the dogs had been hypoallergenic, I would have had no problem, but they were not. I am now suffering from sore eyes. I cannot believe it — huskies, Labradors, and Ridgebacks, to mention a few. Some guests even had two dogs. This showed a complete lack of respect to both myself and my wife. The room I was given was probably a dog-friendly room, which is unacceptable. Having guests with dogs and guests with allergies placed in the same corridor is completely out of order. Disgusting.

Our twin room was a bit dated but was really clean 👍. Close parking was limited, given the area around. Centre location is good, only had breakfast in the restaurant but was good selection. Al staff very attentive and polite.

Lovely stay - comfortable bed, warm room. Great location. Great variety and good quality breakfast. Pool was good fun and sauna and steam room were nice. Staff were friendly.

Lovely room and bars. Leisure facility was particularly outdated - especially the sauna which the door wouldn’t close properly and temperature sat at 55°c. The steam room was also out of order. We booked for the sauna/steam mainly so this was a let down.

Nice cosy stay lovely food and staff very attentive.

First off the positives- pool, soft play & facilities in general at this resort are very good the main reason we stay here. Location is also great as sit right behind town centre. Any staff members we encountered were very friendly, helpful & polite. Area that needs some improvement is the actual bedrooms as none of my family slept well or very much at all due to the beds being very uncomfortable & firm which is disappointing as the main bed is huge & I was very much looking forward to sleeping in it. There is a distinct lack of plug socks in the room so had to unplug kettle & lamp to access the only 2 sockets in the room. in particular we found it strange that there was no sockets next to the bed. The room was overall very clean but think it’s maybe being rushed at we found both clean socks in the drawer of the dresser & dirty socks under the fold out bed. I only spotted the dirty socks as I picked them up thinking they were my daughters & she informed me they weren’t hers. We also requested fresh milk & after waiting 1 hour it still hadn’t arrived & we needed to phone again to ask about the delay. Which is a shame as we thought offering fresh milk was a very nice addition.

Great for one night

Very disapointing. The pool was not open all day (they had time slots), the waves and slide were not operating although they said they would be. I was told the vent system was not working and it was "dangerous" to be in there. That's fine, but when I asked if it was getting fixed staff said "I don't know". House keeping woke me up knocking loudly and non stop at 8am. When I went to the door wondering it could only be an emergency, the house keeper turned her back and walked away without even explaining her actions. I was left with a headache for my drive back home. The playroom was closed and staff didn't know when it would be open. When I complained, the person at reception did a sad face and noded her head, but did nothing to repair the problems I had described. She gave me the manager's email. When I came back to check I had the right email address, I find out the manager was there! I asked to talk to him, but he did not leave his room and she came back telling me to phone him later. Honestly, I never had such disapointing experience before and I've traveled to many many places.

Room was spacious and clean. Beds very comfy. No plug sockets by bed though. Good selection available for breakfast and the pool and soft play were great addition to the hotel. Didn’t manage to make it to the cinema but would have liked to.

The room was clean but the hotel was very dated, the breakfast was not great. Wouldn’t stay again.

We only had a one night stay so didn’t really get to see much of the hotel or its facilities. What we did see was ok but some areas are looking a bit tired.
