Giới thiệu

Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia. It is the biggest city in Malaysia with 243 kilometres square wide. Lots of travelers from Indonesia come here since there are a lot of promo tickets to Kuala Lumpur.

A lot of different ethnics live peacefully in Kuala Lumpur, with Malay as the majority, followed by Chinese and Indian.

Petronas Twin Tower, one of the highest and the most famous tower in the world, is located in Kuala Lumpur. It attracts thousands of visitors every year.

It is easy to access and travel all over the city because Kuala Lumpur has a well-maintained and integrated public transportation.  

Kuala Lumpur history

At the beginning, Kuala Lumpur is a tin ore mining centralized in Ampang. In 1800s, the mining attracted a lot of Chinese merchants.

During the World War II, Kuala Lumpur was conquered by the Japanese for three years (1942-1945). After Malaysia declared its independence, Kuala Lumpur became the capital city in 1963.

In 1990s, Kuala Lumpur’s economy grew fast by nearly 10% per year. A lot of infrastructures such as main road, public transportation and skyscrapers were built by the government.

How to go to Kuala Lumpur

By plane

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is located in Selangor. It has two main areas: KLIA Main and KLIA LCCT. KLIA LCCT is a special airport that serves low cost carrier airlines like AirAsia.

The distance between KLIA and Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral) is about 59 kilometres or 1 hour drive. Most travelers choose bus or train to get to KL Sentral.

Transportation from/to KLIA

You can pick various taxis when you arrive at the airport. It costs around MYR 100 one-way to get to the city.

Traveling by bus is the cheapest way to get to Kuala Lumpur from the airport. Fares start from MYR 10 (adult) and MYR 6 (children) one-way.

You can take KLIA Express to get to the city. It costs around MYR 35 (adult) and MYR 15 (children) one-way.

Renting a minibus is the alternate option if you visit Kuala Lumpur in a group. This transportation can carry up to seven passengers. Fares start from MYR 120 one-way.

Transportations in Kuala Lumpur

You can easily find taxi in major areas of Kuala Lumpur. There are two types of taxis: metered taxis and non-metered taxis.  

Metered taxi fares start from MYR 3.

Go KL Bus
You can travel around Kuala Lumpur for free by Go KL Bus.

These are the complete Go KL Bus routes :

  • Bus Go KL green route: KLCC - Bukit Bintang - KLCC
  • Bus Go KL purple route: Jl. Sultan Muhamad - Bukit Bintang - Jl. Sultan Muhamad

Operational hours:

  • Monday - Thursday: 06:00 - 23:00
  • Friday - Saturday: 06:00 - 01:00
  • Sunday: 07:00 - 23:00

Light Rail Transit (LRT) is the cheapest and fastest public transportation in Kuala Lumpur. It arrives every 5 minutes in each station.

These are the complete LRT routes:

  • Kelana Jaya Line: Kelana Jaya - KL Sentral - KLCC - Gombak
  • Monorail Line: KL Sentral - Hang Tuah - Bukit Nanas - Titiwangsa
  • Ampang Line: Ampang - Miharja - Hang Tuah - Masjid Jamek - Titiwangsa - Sentul Timur

One-way fares start from MYR 0.70.

KTM Komuter
KTM Komuter is a train frequently used by sub urban residences who live in outer part of Kuala Lumpur. This is the fastest transportation for commuters to get to KL Sentral.

These are the complete KTM Komuter routes:

  • Rawang routes: Sg Gadut - Nilai - Bandar Tasik Selatan - KL Sentral - Putra - Rawang - Tg Malim
  • Klang routes: Pel Klang - Klang - Shah Alam - Petaling - KL Sentral - Putra - Sentul - Batu Caves

Tourist attractions in Kuala Lumpur

Petronas Towers

Petronas Towers were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004. Built between 1992 and 1996, Petronas Twin Towers are 451 metres tall.  

Petronas Towers feature Suria KLCC, the biggest retail centre in Kuala Lumpur. In 41st and 42nd floor, there is a Skybridge where visitors can observe the stunning views of Kuala Lumpur.

Below the building, there is the 17 acres KLCC Park. The park has jogging and walking paths, a fountain with incorporated light show, wading pools and a children playground.

Kuala Lumpur Tower

Kuala Lumpur Tower is known as the second highest tower in Kuala Lumpur. It features an antenna that reaches 421 metres tall. The tower is not only used for communication purposes but also as one of the popular tourist attractions.

Visitors can see breathtaking sunset and unforgettable night view from the top of Kuala Lumpur Tower.

  • Bukit Bintang

Bukit Bintang is one of the popular shopping destinations in Kuala Lumpur. It has various collections like shoes, clothes, and other accessories.

In Bukit Bintang, you can also taste Malay, Chinese and Western delicacies.

Bukit Bintang is easy to access. It is situated 10 minutes walk from Puduraya Bus Station.

KL Bird Park

KL Bird Park has 3,000 birds varying from 200 different species. It is arguably the largest walk-in free-flight aviary in the world.

It is located in Jl. Cendrawasih, Taman Tasik Perdana, 5 minutes drive from KL Sentral.

Little India

In Little India, you can find various shops selling everything from traditional Indian goods such as saris, flower garlands, spices and Bollywood music. You can also taste the local delicacies such as vadai, prata, thosai (Indian pancakes made from fermented rice flour) and more.

Since its renovation, Little India has turned into one of KL’s trademark tourist hot spots. It’s easy to access Little India since its location is near KL Sentral station by 10 minutes drive.

Batu Caves

Batu Caves is the sacred place for the Hindus in Malaysia. They consist of three main caves and a number of smaller ones. The caves are made of limestone, 400 meters long and 100 metres high.

The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia which is celebrated once a year. It's a celebration for the son of Shiva (Subramaniam) and the becoming "one" of  Pusan and the Brihaspati stars.

Batu Caves is situated 13 kilometers (7 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur. You can use KTM Komuter from KL Sentral for 15 minutes to go to Batu Caves.

Central Market

Central Market is one of the oldest building in Kuala Lumpur, built in 1880. It revamped as a huge gifts emporium, the Art Deco wet market. It is also known as a one-stop centre for handicrafts.

If you are an art and craft aficionado, you should visit Central Market.

Travel tips in Kuala Lumpur

  • Most locals in Kuala Lumpur speak Malay, but Indonesian or English is commonly understood.

  • Make sure that you use metered taxi in Kuala Lumpur rather than non-metered taxi. Using metered taxi is a lot safer and to avoid scam.  

  • Visit Petronas Towers or Kuala Lumpur Tower at night for its spectacular city lights.

  • Nasi lemak is one of the most popular Kuala Lumpur delicacies worth trying, usually served for breakfast. Village Park Restaurant is one of the recommended places to taste nasi lemak.
