We had an amazing stay at Hakone Hotel Kowaki-en. Since its recent renewal, the hotel feels incredibly modern, clean, and welcoming.
The highlight was definitely the open-air hot spring on the top floor—soaking in the onsen while taking in the stunning mountain views was pure bliss. The buffet was another pleasant surprise; both breakfast and dinner offered a fantastic variety of fresh seafood, sashimi, and even free-flowing drinks.
Location-wise, it’s highly convenient as the bus stop is right in front of the property. The staff were attentive, and the overall ambiance was peaceful. It's an excellent half-board choice for anyone looking to unwind in Hakone. Highly recommended!

Ten of us checked in in the five rooms, sadly one of the rooms were not properly cleaned, we found some dirt on the carpet, but we did understand the incident should be caused by the previous guests, and the hotel was nice enough to change to a bigger room for us. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful, and the hotel was quite newly refurbished, just unlike other old-fashioned onsen hotel, the entertainment in this hotel was quite limited. The entire family gave very high compliments to the food quality! Both dinner and breakfast were awesome! Overall this is a hotel for relax and a break from city life.

This is a family-friendly hotel with a strong focus on kids, so there are lots of children around, especially at lunch, which can be overwhelming. The hotel is very nice; the pool and gardens are also attractive. However, if you're visiting without small children, it might not be the best choice.

we were happy with everything in the hotel. Nothing to complain about. We were there to enjoy private Onsen and it was very nice. There is some Sulphur smell in the corridors but I guess, that is expected when you are near a hot spring.

tips:
Inchecken (kamers en eten) is heel strikt. vergeet niet om een nummertje te trekken voor de wachtrij. Inchecken begint om 15;00 als een soort ceremonie.
Diner starttijd is 17:30 of 19:30 en je hebt 30min om je te melden. hotel bepaalt het tijdslot.
tops;
Eten is prima, echter ontbijt, lunch en diner hebben hetzelfde buffet. Los bestellen is kostbaar en er zijn geen restaurants in de buurt. Advies is om het eten direct erbij te boeken.
Personeel heel vriendelijk
Gratis elke 20min hotel shuttle bus naar kunstmuseum en treinstation / kabeltrein.
Kamers schoon en heerlijke douche.

There were great instructions in English for the bath. There is a very handy shuttle bus to Gora that is a helpful additional alternative to bus. This place is only about two years old so everything is very clean and fresh.
