If your idea of a good time involves palm trees, fruity cocktails and zero responsibilities, flights to Koh Samui should be high on your list. This island knows how to do downtime. You can snorkel, party, paddle or nap with no judgment. It’s all just a one-stop flight away from Australia, and whether you’re flying solo or rounding up the crew, the island’s got something for every type of traveller.
Without any direct options available, Koh Samui flight times will vary depending on where you’ll be connecting and the length of the layover. These are the shortest routes we’re currently finding.
No direct flights from Australia just yet, but there are solid one-stop options that’ll get you there with minimal hassles:
Koh Samui Airport is about 3 kms from Chaweng Beach, the island’s main tourist area. It’s a privately-owned airport with open-air terminals and a laid-back tropical vibe.
From the airport, you can reach Chaweng in around 10 minutes by taxi. If you prefer a door-to-door ride with no waiting, grab an airport taxi or pre-book a private transfer. You can also hire a car directly at the terminal, or go for the more budget-friendly shared shuttle option.
Want to save a few bucks? Fly between January and May. You’ll dodge the crowds, snag better flight prices, and still get good weather, especially from February to April when it’s dry and sunny most days. November and December are peak season with prices to match. If you’re trying to avoid paying through the nose, steer clear of those months unless you’ve got points to burn.
Aussie passport holders get a 60-day visa exemption on arrival for holidays and short business trips. Your passport needs at least six months left on it. Fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online a few days before you go. It’s free, quick and a must-do. Need a visa? If you’re not eligible for a visa exemption, you can apply for an E-Visa through the official Thai E-Visa website.
