Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is the main air gateway to central Vietnam. It serves the coastal city of Da Nang and is the usual arrival point for trips to Hoi An, the Marble Mountains and the beaches along this stretch of coast. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic, and it has two long parallel runways able to take large jets.
Few Asian airports sit this close to town. The terminals lie on the western side of Da Nang, roughly 3 to 5 km from the city centre, depending on where you measure from. A car ride to the Han River area or to My Khe Beach is normally short outside peak hours.
The airport has two passenger terminals a few minutes' walk apart:
Both have the usual facilities of a major airport, including food outlets, shops, currency exchange and lounges. If you are connecting between a domestic and an international flight, allow time to walk between the two buildings and clear the relevant formalities.
A wide mix of carriers flies to DAD, including Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air and Bamboo Airways on domestic routes. Regional airlines such as AirAsia, Korean Air and Singapore Airlines also appear on the international side. Domestic flights link Da Nang with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and other Vietnamese cities. Check the current timetable for international routes, as they vary by season.
Da Nang itself offers the Dragon Bridge over the Han River and the long sandy stretch of My Khe Beach. The Marble Mountains are to the south of the city, and the old town of Hoi An is an easy day trip. Ba Na Hills, with its cable car, sits in the hills west of Da Nang.
Look at your ticket to see which terminal you need, because domestic and international flights use different buildings. Central Vietnam gets heavy rain in some months, so leave extra time for the road and check your flight status before leaving the hotel. For international departures, arrive earlier than you would for a domestic hop.
