Location is very strategic, walking distance to Darling Harbour & Town Hall. The room is very well equipped with a kitchen, stoves, microwave, coffee maker, and all utensils. The bed is very comfy, we have a king-size bed enough to fit 2 adults & 2 kids. The best thing is that it has a washing machine & dryer. The staff is really nice & informative. The pool is big enough. We tried the gym, which is open 24 hours. Really recommend and definitely will come back here.

Stayed at Hyatt Regency Sydney and really enjoyed the experience. The room was spacious, well-maintained, and the housekeeping team did an excellent job throughout. The location by Darling Harbour made it easy to walk everywhere, and the breakfast selection was solid. Service was warm and efficient, making the whole stay feel effortless.

I had a great stay at YHA Sydney Harbour from June 26-28, 2026 in the Queen Opera Harbour View room. The location is perfect, very close to everything and the harbour view was amazing. The room was clean, comfortable, and the ensuite was very convenient. Staff were friendly and helpful. I also tried the food and it was good. Overall a really good experience and great value for money!

Chatswood is a nice and clean area in North Sydney. The station is big as it has Metro, Train, Bus. Easy walk from station to Meriton Chatswood. The semi-apartment is clean and luckily I got the 19th floor so I had wonderful views every day. The staff is friendly. I would love to stay here again next time.

More about hotels in Sydney

Perched on a stunning natural harbour and surrounded by pristine beaches in the east and lush bushland in the west, Sydney is a great place to spend a few days - or more. If you are travelling for work, the CBD has amazing views, beautiful gardens, and waterfront restaurants. This makes even simple business trips feel like a vacation.

And it's not just the city that makes staying here wonderful. Sydney accommodation is world-class. The city boasts accommodation for any kind of traveller, from backpackers on a budget to high-flyers looking for a luxe stay.

Where to stay when you book a hotel in Sydney

Booking accommodation in Sydney means living, even if temporarily, in the heart of the action. You’ll have easy access to public transportation, making it simple to explore the surrounding areas. Plus, Sydney’s hotels cater to all budgets, offering everything from luxury stays to cozy boutique options.

By choosing to stay in the city, you ensure that every moment of your trip fills with excitement and adventure. We know not every traveller wants to stay in Sydney CBD. Here are some areas to consider when you visit.

  • Sydney CBD accommodation: This is the heart of the city. Most major businesses and key attractions are here. You can find the Sydney Opera House, Circular Quay, and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. You'll also have great accessibility to public transport including trains, buses and ferries.
  • Manly and the Northern Beaches accommodation: If you're after a beachy break, consider staying on the north side of Sydney Harbour in Manly. Manly's Corso is easy to reach by ferry or bus. It feels like a world away. The area is full of restaurants and shops. They are just a short walk from the beautiful beach.
  • Bondi and the Eastern Suburbs accommodation: For iconic Sydney beach experiences, mouth-watering cafes without giving up proximity to the city, check out Bondi Beach, Bondi Junction, Bronte, Coogee and just about anywhere else in Waverley Council.
  • North Sydney accommodation: More businesses are opening on the north side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You might visit here for work. But North Sydney hotels can also have incredible views of the CBD from across the harbour at a much cheaper rate than staying in the city. best of all? It's just one stop on the train away from the action of a scenic walk across the bridge.

Finding cheap accommodation in Sydney - it is possible!

Finding cheap hotels in Sydney is a savvy traveller’s dream, and we're here to make it come true. With some research, you can find great deals on hotels in the city.

A few budget-friendly options that real Traveloka users have ranked highly include the Jensen Potts Point, Devere Hotel and the Grand Hotel

Here's a few top tips to finding more

  • Stay at hotels on the city fringe, and not right at Circular Quay or Darling Harbour. Accommodations around Central Station or near Kings Cross station tend to be much cheaper, but are still close to train stations. If you don't mind a bit more of a commute, stay a bit further out and you can save even more.
  • Consider private rooms in hostels. Many come with their own en-suites, too, making it feel like a hotel stay for up to half the price.
  • Use Traveloka's simple filters. We can easily add price caps or sort options by the cheapest prices. This way, you won't have to sift through hundreds of bad choices to find your perfect stay.
  • Avoid travelling during peak seasons. Skip Sydney around Christmas, New Year's, long weekends or school holidays when hotel prices rise.

Sydney accommodation costs - how much should you expect to spend?

We'll admit it: Sydney is not the cheapest place to stay. But, it's definitely worth the price! This amazing city has a lot to offer. It has beautiful beaches, lovely national parks, many award-winning restaurants, and interesting museums and galleries.

We do want you do have the most affordable stay possible, though. So before you start searching for your stay, make sure to check out any available discount codes on our promotions page.

  • Hostels and homestays: A bed in a shared room is the cheapest way to stay, with private hostel rooms costing a bit more. A few well-reviewed options include: 790 on George Backpackers, Maze Backpackers
  • Pub stays: A great way to save money (and get a good feed downstairs), rooms at pubs are usually private and sit in the budget-to-mid range. A few well-reviewed options include: Wynyard Hotel, The Occidental Hotel
  • Budget 2- to 3-star hotels: Simple, but clean, accommodations on the city fringe or inner suburbs are the next step up from hostels and pubs. A few well-reviewed options include: Central Private Hotel, Hotel Hacienda
  • Moderate 3- to 4-star hotels: Centrally located, these hotels are often within walking distance to attractions and sit firmly in the mid-range. A few well-reviewed options include: Oaks Sydney Goldsbrough Suites, Park Regis City Centre
  • Luxury 4- and 5-star hotels: Home to some epic views of the harbour and city, luxury stays in Sydney sit at the top of the price range. A few well-reviewed options include: Paradox Sydney, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney

Common amenities you'll find at Sydney hotels (and ones you won't)

In the CBD, Sydney accommodations are a bit tight on space. But, they do make the most of what they have.

While it's not uncommon to find parking at or near Sydney hotels, don't expect it to be free – especially in the CBD. Parking is hard to find in the city centre. It might be better to leave your car at home. You can also hire a car for the days you need one.

Booking a Sydney staycation? Here's our top picks

Frequently Asked Questions about Accommodation in Sydney

When is the best time to visit Sydney?

September to November (spring) and March to May (autumn) offer mild, pleasant weather without peak summer crowds. December to February is hot and busy with New Year's Eve fireworks and beach season, while June to August is cooler and quieter, good for sightseeing without the queues.

How long is the flight to Sydney from other Australian cities?

Sydney is about 1.5 hours from Melbourne or Brisbane, 2 hours from Adelaide, and around 5 hours from Perth. Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar all run frequent daily flights into Sydney Airport.

Do I need a car to get around Sydney?

No — trains, buses and ferries cover the CBD, Manly, Bondi and North Sydney well, and the ferry to Manly is one of the best ways to see the harbour. A car becomes more useful only if you're heading further out to the Blue Mountains or South Coast.

Sydney CBD or Bondi — which is better to stay in?

The CBD puts you closest to the Opera House, Circular Quay and the Harbour Bridge, with the best public transport connections. Bondi trades some of that convenience for beach access and a more relaxed, cafe-driven atmosphere — the two are about 30 minutes apart by bus.

Is Sydney good for families?

Yes — Taronga Zoo (reached by a scenic ferry ride), the Sea Life Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour, and patrolled beaches like Bondi and Manly all work well for families. The Sydney Harbour ferries themselves are usually a highlight for kids.

Is Sydney more expensive than Melbourne?

Generally yes — Sydney tends to run a little higher than Melbourne for accommodation and dining, especially close to the harbour. Staying slightly out of the CBD, around Surry Hills or North Sydney, is an easy way to bring costs down while staying well connected.

What should I pack for Sydney?

Sun protection year-round, swimwear if you're anywhere near the beaches, and a light layer for the harbour breeze in the evenings. Comfortable shoes are worth it for the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk and getting around the CBD on foot.

What is Sydney known for?

The Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, its harbour ferries, iconic beaches like Bondi and Manly, and a laid-back outdoor lifestyle built around the water. It's also home to major events like New Year's Eve fireworks on the harbour and the Vivid Sydney light festival.

What are the best areas to visit near Sydney?
