The room was clean, tidy, and fragrant. The lady cleaned it before check-in. The AC was super cold! The service was excellent, and you can leave your motorbike parking with her, and it's free. Highly recommended, an honest review of my recent stay here at Cibuaya Beach.

The staff are very friendly, with hot and cold showers. Complete facilities include warm and cold swimming pools, a children's playground, a flying fox, and water bikes. You can feed the fish in the lake and enjoy unlimited canoeing. There's a bridge that crosses the lake. The overall design and facilities are excellent. Cleanliness and paintwork need to be improved to attract more guests. Best of luck!

The hotel's location is actually easy to access and away from the crowd, only the access road is narrow. All staff from the receptionist to the helper are all very friendly and helpful. The room is not too spacious but compact, amenities and toiletries are also complete. Complete facilities. The pool water is warm and slightly salty because they say they don't use chlorine which makes it sting the eyes. The jacuzzi is great, all body aches disappear. As for the food in the restaurant? Everything is delicious. At breakfast everything is a must try, hahaha. Padma is definitely worth the price. Totally worth it!

More about hotels in West Java

About West Java accommodation

West Java is Jakarta's easiest escape hatch. Head south from the capital and the traffic gives way to hill towns, tea plantations and an active volcano you can walk right up to. Bandung is the main hub, sitting high enough above sea level to run several degrees cooler than the coast.

You'll find everything from simple guesthouses tucked behind the factory outlets to five-star hill resorts overlooking tea plantations. Whatever your budget, there's a stay to match, and most of it is only a couple of hours from Jakarta by road.

Where to stay in West Java

  • Bandung: West Java's biggest city sits around 700 metres above sea level, so evenings are properly cool. It's the base for factory outlet shopping on Jalan Cihampelas, a lively food scene, and day trips up to Tangkuban Perahu volcano.
  • Bogor: A little over an hour south of Jakarta, Bogor is built around one of the oldest botanical gardens in Southeast Asia. It's a relaxed base if you want greenery and cooler air without driving all the way to the highlands.
  • Puncak: A string of hill resorts and tea plantations above Bogor, popular with Jakarta families on weekends. Mornings here are misty, and the views roll out over green slopes for kilometres.

How much is West Java accommodation?

  • Budget: AU$20-45, a simple guesthouse or budget hotel room, clean and no-frills, sometimes fan-only instead of air conditioning.
  • Mid-range: AU$50-110, a three or four-star hotel with a pool and breakfast included, often within walking distance of Bandung's outlet strip or Bogor's old town.
  • Luxury: AU$150-350, a five-star resort or boutique hill retreat, think spa treatments, mountain or garden views and a proper breakfast spread.

What West Java is known for

  • A cool-climate escape from Jakarta: Bandung sits around 700 metres above sea level, which keeps it several degrees cooler than the capital year-round. It's long been the go-to weekend runaway for Jakarta locals, especially since the Cipularang Toll Road cut the drive to under two hours.
  • Tangkuban Perahu volcano: An active volcano about 30 kilometres north of Bandung. You can walk right up to the rim of its main crater, Kawah Ratu, and look down into the steam and boiling mud below.
  • Bogor Botanical Gardens: An 87-hectare garden founded in 1817, making it the oldest botanical garden in Southeast Asia. It holds one of the world's largest orchid collections and giant Amazon water lilies you can spot from the walking paths.
  • Factory outlets and food: Bandung's Jalan Cihampelas and Jalan Riau are lined with outlets selling surplus export-label fashion at warehouse prices. Pair a shopping run with the city's food scene, from streetside martabak to sit-down Sundanese restaurants.

Top-rated hotels in West Java

  • Padma Hotel Bandung: Set in the hills of Ciumbuleuit, with wide valley views and grounds big enough for outdoor activities like archery.
  • The Trans Luxury Hotel Bandung: A five-star stay right in the city centre, with a rooftop pool and a kids' club for family trips.
  • The Gaia Hotel Bandung: A newer, highly-rated property in Setiabudi, close to the cooler northern edge of the city.
  • Hotel Santika Bogor: A reliable full-service hotel with spacious rooms, a solid pick if you'd rather not gamble on a smaller property.
  • Novotel Bogor Golf Resort & Convention Center: A resort-style stay built around its own golf course, a quieter option just outside central Bogor.

Travel tips for West Java

  • The Cipularang Toll Road links Jakarta to Bandung in around 90 minutes to two hours by car, longer on Friday evenings and public holidays when half of Jakarta has the same idea.
  • Pack a light jacket. Evenings in Bandung and Puncak get genuinely cool, which can catch you out if you've flown in from somewhere steamier.
  • Weekends and school holidays are peak season on the Puncak Pass, and traffic can crawl for hours. An early start or a midweek trip makes a real difference.
  • Hit the factory outlets on Jalan Cihampelas early. They fill up fast on weekends, and the best stock goes first.

Frequently Asked Questions about Accommodation in West Java

Is West Java worth visiting, or is it just a stopover on the way to Bali?

West Java earns a trip on its own merits. Bandung's cool mountain air sits in real contrast to steamy Jakarta or Bali, and the region packs an active volcano, sprawling tea plantations and a proper hill town pace into a couple of hours' drive from the capital. If you want scenery and cooler weather without a long flight, it stands up well against bigger name destinations.

When is the best time to visit West Java?

The dry season from April to October brings the clearest skies, which matters most if you're heading up to Tangkuban Perahu or the tea plantations for the views. November to March is wetter, with afternoon showers that usually clear quickly, and the plantations stay lush and green through this period too. Either season works, it just depends on whether you'd rather have dry trails or greener scenery.

Do Australians need a visa to visit West Java?

Yes. Australian passport holders need a Visa on Arrival or an e-Visa on Arrival to enter Indonesia, valid for 30 days and extendable once for another 30. It costs around IDR 500,000, roughly AUD 50, and can be arranged online in advance or on arrival at major airports. Visa rules can change, so it's worth checking Indonesia's official immigration site or your travel agent close to your departure date.

How do you get to West Java from Australia?

There are no direct flights from Australia to Bandung, so the usual route is flying into Jakarta and continuing from there. From Jakarta, Bandung is around two hours away by car via the Cipularang Toll Road, or a similar trip by train from Gambir Station. Some travellers also fly from Jakarta to Bandung's Husein Sastranegara Airport, though road and rail are more common.

Can you visit Tangkuban Perahu and the tea plantations in a single day trip?

Yes, both sit within about 30 to 40 kilometres of Bandung and are usually combined into one day trip. Hiring a car with a driver is the easiest way to cover both, since public transport options are limited and the roads wind through hill country. Starting early avoids the midday cloud that can roll in over the crater and gives you more time at the plantations before the afternoon crowds arrive.

Is West Java a good destination for a family trip?

It works well for families, especially with kids old enough to enjoy walking around a volcano crater or wandering through tea fields. The cooler climate in Bandung and Puncak is also easier on younger children than the heat of the coast. Just factor in some flexibility around drive times, as hill roads and weekend traffic can turn a short trip into a longer one.

How do you get around once you're in West Java?

Ride hailing apps like Gojek and Grab cover Bandung and Bogor well and are the simplest way to get around town. For trips out to Tangkuban Perahu, the tea plantations or Puncak, hiring a car with a driver for the day is far more practical than relying on public transport, which is limited outside the main cities.

What currency should you use in West Java, and are cards accepted?

The Indonesian Rupiah is the only currency used day to day, so it's worth carrying enough cash for smaller towns, markets and roadside stalls. Larger hotels, malls and chain restaurants generally accept cards, but smaller guesthouses and outlet stores often expect cash. ATMs are common in Bandung and Bogor, less so once you're further into the hills.

Is English widely spoken in West Java?

English is spoken at hotels, larger restaurants and tourist facing businesses in Bandung and Bogor, so getting by isn't difficult. It's less common in smaller shops and out in the hill villages, where Indonesian is far more useful. A translation app or a few basic Indonesian phrases go a long way once you're off the main tourist strips.

Does West Java feel touristy, or can you still get a local experience?

Bandung's outlet strip and the main viewpoints at Tangkuban Perahu can feel busy, especially on weekends when Jakarta locals head up for a break. Step off those strips though, into Bogor's older neighbourhoods, smaller local eateries or quieter plantation roads, and the pace slows down fast. It's less about avoiding the popular spots and more about pairing them with a couple of quieter ones.

What are the best areas to visit near West Java?

If you are in West Java, you can also visit Bekasi, Karawang, Sumedang, Bogor, Sukabumi, Majalengka, Tasikmalaya, Banjar, Bandung, Ciamis

Try staying overnight because your refreshing time is super short. The room is comfortable. The location is strategic, close to the mall and Bogor Botanical Gardens. There's also a fast food restaurant next door. The breakfast menu is extensive and delicious. The room is clean and comfortable. You can choose a non-smoking room. The best!
