History of Trunyan Village and Dewi Danu Statue

Trunyan Village is deeply rooted in Bali's unique traditions and mystical allure. Located on the eastern shores of Lake Batur, Trunyan is renowned for its traditional funeral rituals. Unlike most Balinese villages, where bodies are burned, the people of Trunyan have an interesting open-air burial method. Bodies are placed under a large tree known as the Taru Menyan tree, which is believed to emit an aroma that prevents decomposition. This extraordinary burial tradition, coupled with the village’s pristine beauty, makes Trunyan one of the most mystical places in Bali.

One of the main attractions in the village is the Goddess Danu Statue. This statue is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess who symbolizes water, lakes, and rivers. The statue is located near the shores of Lake Batur and is a symbol of the spiritual connection that the Trunyan people have with nature and water, signifying their reverence for the life-giving power of water.

Dewi Danu is also known for her role in maintaining harmony between the spiritual world and the natural world. The statue is not only a spiritual symbol, but also an architectural wonder, set against the backdrop of the beautiful lake and surrounding mountains.
