Xpress Air was first established in 2003. Xpress Air was originally named Fly Express, and began operating commercial flights on June 23, 2003 with a flight route between Jayapura and Jakarta. A few years later, Fly Express also changed its name to Express Air.
In 2012, the name Express Air was changed back to Xpress Air. The rebranding and second change was done with the aim of representing a more modern and customer-friendly image of the airline.
Two years later since the official name change to Xpress Air or precisely in 2014, the airline then began serving international flight routes starting from Malaysia first. For Malaysian flights, Xpress Air serves at Kuching and Melaka International Airports.
During its operations, Xpress Air has consistently grown to become one of the country's largest airlines for eastern Indonesia. The airline's destinations in eastern Indonesia are numerous and varied, including Sampit, Wakatobi, and Wamena.
Currently, Xpress Air no longer serves commercial flights. Based on uploads on its official Instagram account at @xpressairindonesia, they last updated on January 30, 2021. That way, Xpress Air has been serving passengers for about 18 years since it was still called Fly Express.
