Our room was lovely with great views and good amenities. But the stay was very much let down by the attitude and lack of communication from the majority of the staff. When checking in I confirmed with the receptionist that we had a table booked in the Galley restaurant for dinner. On arrival in the bar for a pre-dinner drink my husband checked in with the waitress, who showed him our reserved table and told him to go through when we were ready. She did say that the Galley restaurant was shut ‘due to a wake’. There was no evidence of the wake still going on at 6 pm. When we went through to our table we were completely ignored by numerous waiting staff. Eventually my husband went to the bar to ask for another drink. At this point he was told that ‘due to the wake we are not doing table service tonight’. Now why, oh why, did none of the previous staff we had spoken to ever mention this? How long would we have sat there if we hadn’t gone and asked? And why did the long finished wake mean that there was no table service? Purely to make things easier for them at the expense of their customers. The food was nice, but the whole evening was marred by the attitude and lack of awareness of the staff. The duty manager did come and speak to us and comped us a drink, but this should never have been necessary. Also please be aware that reception insist on a physical credit card - we could not pay by phone. Nowhere in advance is this made clear.

We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms, which was spacious and comfortable. We had to issues, the shower when put on a full spray only trickled out but on a fine nozzle was ok. The other was we had a blanket in our room to put at the bottom of the bed, but I had to get to changed as it smelt very strongly of dogs. We ate in the restaurant which was good but the food choice off the Thats menu was quite limited. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Hoped to stay in old part, not quite the same atmosphere in newer section! Toilet was dirty and mud on floor on arrival. Ordered cheese pasty and got a meat one! Too late to change. Fish and chips were excellent, small portion plenty for each of us. A lovely place to stay, recommend read Daphne DuMauriers book. Great position to explore both coast lines.

Staff on reception and cleaning lady were fantastic, two of the bar staff were not. The standard of food years ago wasn't very good, tried it again as the menu had changed and again still appalling.. found the peeling from onion mixed in with pulled pork, and the pulled pork was full of fat.. Sent it back and was given a madras as a replacement which was sent back again as it tasted like it come from a can, extremely bland and no heat at all.. very dissatisfied with the food since the Jamaican inn has been taken over by a chain.. Such a shame as the building and rooms are fantastic and in a good location.

Stayed for 2 nights. Just perfect. Breakfast perfect. Main meals perfect. Staff perfect. Room was just fabulously perfect. The uneven floors were beautful and the effort made to keep it looking old is to be applauded. The doors were awesome. We find somewhere like this every year around this time for our birthdays and anniversary. Always somewhere with history and central to exploring. First time in 100s we'll be coming back. The whole bodmin area is astounding and the Jamaica is the perfect base from which to explore. 12th c Knights Templar church is a must find, and Lady in the Lake (Excalibur) OMG.
