Slightly dated hotel and rooms. The pool area with slides was the highlight of our trip. The price of the breakfast at £25 pp seemed stiff for the quality of the food.

“Booked this hotel expecting a high-quality stay based on the price and facilities advertised, but unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. We paid £144 for one night and the hotel felt very run down, dated, and in need of major refurbishment. The room and overall property did not feel worth the money at all. We specifically chose this hotel because of the leisure centre, gym, sauna and spa facilities, but even those were underwhelming and disappointing compared to what we expected from a hotel in this price range. There are far more modern hotels nearby for cheaper prices that offer a much better overall experience. The staff were genuinely lovely, friendly and helpful throughout our stay, which was the only real positive. You could tell they were doing their best. However, great staff alone cannot make up for how tired and neglected the hotel feels overall. For the price paid, I expected comfort, quality and a more modern environment. Instead, it felt old-fashioned, worn out and overpriced. Sadly, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it unless the hotel undergoes significant improvements and refurbishment.”

We were woken at 7am by a fire alarm and had to evacuate our room with a baby and a 6-year-old, only for it to stop before we even reached the muster point. It was later explained, quite casually, that it was caused by someone showering with the bathroom door open. Given there’s a sign warning about “sensitive” alarms, this doesn’t feel like a one-off and isn’t acceptable in a family hotel where sleep is already precious. We stayed at Macdonald Aviemore Resort as a family of four. When we raised this, along with a broken kettle, reception initially offered complimentary breakfast but later withdrew it after checking with a manager, which felt poorly handled. The hotel itself feels tired and in need of investment. Our room was small, especially with a cot, the shower was only lukewarm, and carpets were dirty with an unpleasant smell. The lift also smelt strongly of smoke. There are positives: the pool and facilities are good and we enjoyed them, though some maintenance is needed (hair dryers out of order, puddles on the floor, drains not very clean). The outdoor park is great for kids but also showing wear. Aviemore is a fantastic location, but the resort feels like it’s relying on that rather than maintaining standards, it’s certainly not 4 star. With better upkeep, it could be much better.

The breakfast did not feel fresh, the coffee tea and coffee was pretty disgusting, having 4 adults come to the same conclusion. Perhaps ok for young families, but inspecifically booked this hotel for its proximity to the town centre with a pool and gym, not realising they open from 8-8… that was no good for our stay, I was hoping to have done the early workout and swim - so we got no use of the facilities and they were across the campus from where we stayed… Perhaps beginner lesson in using this site, but quite off out by the bar and breakfast setup with young children running round everywhere… perhaps make it clearer or segregate guests better… You have all the data on who is staying in the rooms… make better use of the data to improve guest experiences.

The hotel was in a good location, a bit run down and dated. Hairdryer in the room didn’t work, the window sil was loose and the sofa bed was horrific! My 2 kids had terrible sleeps both nights. I wouldn’t say it was worth the £355 we paid for 2 nights. We’d expect much better quality for that price.

Hotel on resort we booked was closed for night so our reservation has been moved to the highlands hotel . We did not recieve any communication or notification regarding this , we arrived 1 hour after check in time to a dark deserted hotel with a note posted on door telling us to to go to highland hotel reception nearby , so this was ever so slightly frustrating and stressful with 3 kids in the dark . Highland hotel had booked us in to 3 adjoining rooms which were lovely and great to have space for our family but communication from the hotel of the change would of been greatly recieved and welcome.

Room was dated, lighting didn’t light the space, room was never cleaned despite us asking on numerous occasions. Mould on bathroom ceiling and taps. Rusty radiators. Threadbare carpets. Unhelpful staff. Very expensive food and drinks on site. Breakfast was poor quality in choice and quality. Pastries always undercooked. Toast never actually toasted. Hot food over salted and often burnt.

Staff were nice enough. Room kidding on it was posh. Poor job hoovering though my daughter made some money on the coins found. Not so happy she was picking up Kirby grips, sharp hair pins, hair bobbles and those things plastic tags from new clothes from our room floor. Great finds for a family room when you have a young child. Some suspect substances on bedroom wall and back of toilet door (green). No information about what was on in resort. All posters up about cinema times/films more than a week out of date. No info on ice rink. Nothing about the play room next to pool and soft play. No opening times, what they offered. Assumed it was just for toddlers from what we could see through window. Until we noticed a young girl with craft stuff. Sign at our hotel reception gave pool opening hours but said to ask at pool reception for info on times for slide and eaves. Walked over for the guy at the pool to keep repeating the pool is open now like we had two heads Then of course we go a different day to discover not only was the slide not open yet but they had no towels. Pool was freezing, not just a little cold. Spa pool broken, steam room out of order. Thought there might have been evening entertainment on for kids as it is a family resort...not that we found despite it being the Scottish October holiday. Whilst breakfast was fine and staff attentive. Having so many stand and watch ready to pounce when you put a bowl down is disconcerting. Restaurant in our hotel shut.
