Purwokerto Station

This is the main station of Operation Area V, also the biggest station in the South Line of Java Island. Purwokerto Station is always busy, considering it as the main stop for almost the entire long-distance passenger-trains and so the Pertamina Petrol Trains that pass the South Line.

Administratively, Purwokerto Station is located in Jln. Stasiun, Kober Village, West Purwokerto District, Banyumas Regency. The most notable feature of this station is the jingle for train arrival that plays the tone of Keroncong Song "Di Tepinya Sungai Serayu". Moreover, there is Purwokerto Locomotive Depot situated near this station. The depot was one of the best in Central Java, thanks to its cleanliness.

Purwokerto City

Purwokerto is a town within the administrative area of Central Java Province. This is the capital of Banyumas Regency, with the size of 38.58 km2. People can easily visit Purwokerto by land, either through the North Coast Road of Java (known as Pantura) or the Trans Java Toll Road.

Although it had been renovated, one of the well-known stations in Central Java is still preserving the Dutch architecture design from the past. You can see the majestic of the European building character is still attached to the station, such as the line of the big wooden windows, the high ceiling of the station platform that is supported by iron poles, and the low platform. Purwokerto Station is estimated being built during 1915 - 1917, due to the Cirebon - Kroya track opening by Staatsspoorwegen. This station also has seven railway tracks that portray how busy the station is at the time.
