Joint holidays are state-sanctioned days of leave to mark special events, such as significant religious or national events.

The number of official holidays in 2021 is still subject to change. However, there are already 15 confirmed national holidays in the country for 2021. As usual, though, many of these days will fall on Saturday, Sunday, or Wednesday. In order to maximize your holiday time for 2021, you should take into account the following list of the Joint holiday:



List of Expected Joint Holidays in 2021

1. New year (29 – 31 December and 1 January)

New Year’s Day will be your first Public Holiday 2021. As always, it will be celebrated on 1 January, and this holiday will fall on a Wednesday.




2. Chinese New Year (12 February)

Chinese New Year celebrations are also celebrated in Indonesia. This time is particularly commemorated by those living in the Chinatown area. There are many interesting shows here during the day of celebrations, such as the Lion Dance and fireworks parties. In 2021, the Chinese New Year Holiday will fall on Friday, 12 February. So, people are expected to take a day off on Saturday, 13 February.




3. Day of Silence (14 March)

Nyepi or Day of Silence is celebrated in accordance with the Hindu Calendar’s Saka New Year. For 2021, Day of Silence will be celebrated on Sunday, 14 March. Though it is a designated Public Holiday, during Day of Silence Hindus are prohibited from travel. However, for those who are not of this religion you’re free to take advantage of this day for a long weekend. Don’t visit Bali during this period, as the majority of tourist attractions will be closed.




4. Good Friday (2 April)

Good Friday will fall on Friday, 2 April. However, for those who are not of this religion you’re free to take advantage of this day for a long weekend from Friday to Sunday.



5. Ascension of Jesus Christ (13 May)

For Christians, Ascension Day of Jesus is a sacred moment in the year. In 2021, the Ascension of Jesus Christ will fall on Thursday, 13 May. Between you and a long weekend, there’s just one more day—Friday, 14 May. If you’re not a celebrant of the holiday, take this Friday off and head back to your hometown for a long weekend.



6. Eid al-Fitri (13 - 14 May)

Eid al-Fitri 2021 is expected to fall on 13 and 14 May. This means the collective holiday it falls on Thursday and Friday. Usually, there are three joint holidays before and after Eid. Meanwhile, the collective holiday of Eid al-Fitr 2021 will last even longer. However, until the government issued an official decree, the dates mentioned above are subject to change. 7. Birthday of Prophet Muhammad (18 and 19 October)

The Prophet Muhammad's birthday in 2021 is expected to fall on October 18 and 19. That way, it will take place on Monday and Tuesday.



8. End of Year (28 - 31 December)

Because the original decision to take additional leave with Eid al-Fitri on May 13 - 14 was revoked. Therefore, joint leave will be shifted to the end of the year on December 28 - 31 December 2021.
