JR West History

JR West (the official name of the West Japan Railway Company) is a special line of railroad companies in Japan directly under the auspices of the Japan Railroad Group (JR Group). Specifically, a subsidiary with a blue logo serves JR Group operations for the western region of Honshu, including the Shinkansen high-speed train line (Sanyo Shinkansen, Hokuriku Shinkansen, and Hakata Minami Line). JR West's headquarters is at 4-24 Shibata 2-chome, Kita-ku, Osaka.

Like other JR Group subsidiaries, JR West is part of the Japanese red plate company's solution, Japan National Railways (JNR). This rail-based transportation company was founded on April 1, 1987. Entering its first year of operation, JR West opened the Honshibisan line which is part of the line between Okayama Station and Takamatsu Station.

In July 1989, JR West began Twilight Express operations. This luxury class limited express train serves Sapporo cross travel on the north side of Hokkaido Island to Osaka on the southwest side of Honshu Island. Unfortunately, premium class trains have stopped operating since March 2015.

In mid 2017, JR West reintroduced the luxury train service through Twilight Express Mizukaze. Twilight Express Mizukaze is a type of luxury-style sleeping car that uses several hybrid diesel engines. This new generation luxury train has a capacity of 34 passengers and operates in western Japan, precisely in Keihanshin, Sanin, and Sanyo.
