I stayed at Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour for two nights while on vacation, and it was such a great experience! The check-in was super quick, the staff were really friendly, and the room was clean and comfy. The best part? The location! The hotel is right next to a tram stop, so getting around Sydney was a breeze. It’s also just a short walk to the harbour, and there are plenty of cool cafés nearby with amazing coffee. Overall, I loved my stay at Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour. Totally recommend it!

We had a fabulous stay at Spicers Balfour that lived up to all our expectations of what we have experienced at any of the 3 other Spicers hotels we've stayed in. This one takes the boutique and personal service level up to the next level, with all the staff we dealt with being helpful, easy to deal with, and friendly, ensuring we had a very lovely time there. The room was as shown on the website and although on the slightly small side had everything we needed. The gorgeous little rooftop bar is really special with its beautiful sunset outlook over New Farm & the Story Bridge. The restaurant provided a 5-star meal in a relaxed setting with beautiful, personal service from the waitstaff. The location makes it a park your car and walk/public transport your way to so many entertainment options in the vicinity. Highly recommend the Balfour—we were there for an anniversary "staycation" and it was perfect, and only 15 mins from home.

When visiting public spaces or attractions, general courtesy applies. For example, at beaches, be mindful of designated swimming areas and surf lifesaver flags, which indicate safe zones. In cafes and restaurants, it's customary to order and pay at the counter in more casual establishments, while table service is common in formal dining settings. Respecting noise levels, especially in residential areas or shared accommodation, is also appreciated, ensuring a pleasant experience for everyone.

Safety in Australia is generally high, but like any destination, it's wise to be aware of your surroundings. Keep valuables secure, especially in crowded tourist areas or on public transport. For Malaysian travellers, reaching Australia is primarily done via air, with direct flights connecting Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 to major Australian cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Perth. Airlines such as Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, and other international carriers frequently service these routes, with flight durations typically ranging from 8 to 10 hours. Booking your book flight in advance, especially during peak seasons, can help secure better fares, which can vary significantly based on the time of year and airline.

Once you arrive in Australia, intercity travel is well-facilitated. Domestic flights are the quickest way to cover long distances between major cities, with numerous airlines offering competitive pricing. For scenic journeys, long-distance train services connect some cities, though these are often more time-consuming and can be pricier. Coach services also operate between major centres, providing a more budget-friendly, albeit slower, option for intercity travel. Within cities, extensive public transport networks, including trains, buses, trams (in Melbourne), and ferries (in Sydney and Brisbane), make getting around convenient and efficient.

The best time to visit Australia from Malaysia largely depends on which region you plan to explore, as the continent experiences diverse climates. For a general overview, spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) offer pleasant weather across much of the country, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds, often translating to more competitive hotel prices. Summer (December to February) is ideal for beach destinations but can be very hot inland, while winter (June to August) is suitable for exploring the warmer northern regions or enjoying snow sports in the Australian Alps.

Before you depart, ensure you have your passport with at least six months' validity beyond your intended stay. The Australian Dollar (AUD) is the local currency; exchange rates fluctuate, so check the current value against the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). Purchasing a local SIM card upon arrival or opting for an eSIM can provide affordable data and calls. Essential apps to download include those for public transport (like PTV for Melbourne or Opal for Sydney), ride-sharing services, and a reliable weather app to plan your daily activities.

Navigating Entry Requirements: Visas for Malaysian Citizens

Malaysian passport holders planning a trip to Australia typically require a visa for entry. The most common type of visa for short-term stays, such as tourism or business visits, is the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) or an eVisitor visa, depending on the specific purpose and duration of your visit. These are generally straightforward to apply for online and allow for stays of up to three months, though it is crucial to confirm the exact requirements for your intended trip.

The application process for Australian visas is primarily online through the official Australian Department of Home Affairs website or via the Australian ETA app. You will need a valid Malaysian passport, a recent digital photograph, and details of your travel plans. It's advisable to apply well in advance of your travel date to allow for processing time. Ensure your passport has at least six months' validity from your planned entry date and be prepared to provide proof of sufficient funds and onward travel arrangements.

Visa requirements and policies can change, so it is imperative for all Malaysian travellers to verify the most current information directly with the Australian Embassy or the Department of Home Affairs website before making any travel arrangements. This ensures you have the correct documentation and meet all entry criteria. Having your visa approved before you book flight tickets can provide peace of mind and prevent any last-minute complications.

The location of the apartment is in CBD, very centrally located to the malls, street malls, restaurants and public transportation - all within short walking distance. Free Trams are a few blocks away. The apartment itself is not that new as interior and furniture are quite outdated, but it is quite homey. If you want to cook a small meal, a small kitchen is available to be used with all tools and utensils, included dishwasher. Washing machine/dryer is in the premise as well included detergent, so you can wash your laundry with no worry. We stayed 10 nights in Sommerset and had received an excellent services from the staff as they were very attentive to all requests made upon. Overall is a-five star apartment that we called home for 10 nights.
