Gurney Drive is famous for its street cuisine which being sold at the seafront’s hawker centre. An Australian traveller magazine, The Traveller has listed this place as one of the 25 best place to visit.
Gurney Drive was previously known as New Coast Road but later being replaced to Gurney Drive after Sir Henry Gurney, a British High Commissioner who had been assassinated by a group of guerrillas during Malaya Emergency in 1951.
How to Get There
By Car
If you are travelling from Kuala Lumpur, you can go to Gurney Drive by driving up to Georgetown using the North-South Expressway. Take exit towards Georgetown along the Penang Bridge. The journey took almost 3 hours and 45 minutes.
By Train
You can also go to Gurney Drive by riding a train. Take up an ETS train from Kuala Lumpur Central, get an ETS ticket to Butterworth, Penang. Approximately, the journey would take up almost 4 hours of journey.
Once reached at Butterworth Station, you may take on a ferry ride leaving from Butterworth to Georgetown. The first ferry of the day leaves Butterworth at 5:20am. The last ferry of the day departs Butterworth at 0040 hours, that is forty minutes past midnight. The trip is only about 15 minutes but facilities are available if you need them.
