Kampung Lalang isn't actually a true village currently, although it used to be the site of a village in the olden days of Tioman. However, at the moment it's a plot of land, adjacent to the beach, within the Berjaya Resort compound bounderies.
Local people here use Bahasa Melayu Pulau as their language. They tend to the Pahang dialect versus bahasa darat, the dialect spoken in this island is similar to the Malay language spoken Indonesian Riau islands in Natuna Island and Archipelago's nearby. Most of them can speak and understanding basic English as it is needed by the foreigners.

If you are from Kuala Lumpur you can follow road to the latter and went Bahau to Rompin.If you are from Singapore continue to follow path Jamluang and continue to Mersing.

Kampung Lalang have a varities of food that you can enjoy during your stay such as ikan patin masak tempoyak with belimbing buloh, freshly cooked barbeque food, fresh seafood, nasi goring, and roti canai,western food, thai food and many more. Visitors to Kampung Lalang are always encouraged to try out the local cuisine although there are some continental choices as well.
The most suitable time to visit Kampung Lalang, Tioman is between the months of March and October. From October end to March beginning, monsoon starts in the island and most of the resorts will be closed during these months. Avoid visiting the island during public and school holidays in Singapore as Tioman Island is the favorite holiday spot of Singaporeans. Please note that the Mersing ferry doesn't go directly to Kampung Lalang. There are no restrictions on the islands of clothing and a lightweight cotton dress, t-shirt and shorts are suitable. However, in a number of villages and rural areas, proper clothing is more appropriate.
