Located about 47 km at the north of Kuantan, Cherating is a beach town in Pahang. The town is located at a major crossroads between a trip to Kuantan and Kuala Terengganu. It has grown from a small fishing village to an emerging tourist spot. Due to the distance and easy accessibility, Cherating has become popular among tourists, be it local or international.
Travel by air is possible via MAS or AirAsia as there are flights practically every day from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan (Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport) which takes less than 45 minutes. But do take note that flights between KLIA and Kuantan may be delayed or turned back due to bad weather. This may happen during the rainy seasons approaching the end of the year. To reach Cherating that is approximately 20km away, take taxi that is available here.
There are many express bus companies that commutes every day to Kuantan from major cities in Peninsular Malaysia. Most come from Kuala Lumpur and you can easily hop on a bus that departs to Kuantan each day from the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS). Also, you may head to Jalan Pekeliling where you will find Pekeliling Bus Terminal. Look for a bus that goes to Kemaman. The buses heading there will usually stop at Kuantanโs Express Bus Terminal for roughly 30 minutes before travelling further north. As Cherating is a small beachside town along the highway, be prepared to ask the bus driver to drop you off at Cherating beach along the way to Kemaman.
Travel by car is the most convenient choice. From Kuala Lumpur, head down to Karak Highway then take the ramp to Kuantan/Genting Highlands and take the exit toward Kemaman that merges onto Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman. Cherating is just somewhere along this road. The drive should take anywhere from 3.5 hours (with no traffic and no stops) to 5 hours (with traffic and a stop or two).
