This mosque is the first real floating mosque in Malaysia. It is located in Kuala Terengganu Town, Terengganu. This mosque’s construction began in 1993 and it was completed on 1995. The official date it was opened was in July 1995. It was officiated by Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah, who was the late Sultan of Terengganu. The mosque was named after the mother of Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah which is Tuanku Intan Zaharah binti Almarhum Tengku Seri Setia Raja.
The architecture of this mosque is very unique. It was built on the water of Sungai Ibai’s estuary hence making it the first floating mosque in Malaysia. The mosque also features the influence of Islamic Civilization as well as local workmanship. The architect uses marble, ceramics, mosaic works as well as bomanite paving. What is great about the design is that with the blue interiors and sun reflection on the water around the mosque makes the mosque looks very serene.
